Hi there folks, Time has come again to renew the touring's insurance (i had a 10 month bonus accelerator with elephant)
The renewal came through at Ԛ£566 for fully comp (10 month again)
I now have 1 yrs NCB and they have apparently included this in the renewal..
I think this is a bit steep for a 24yr old, driving for 6 yrs and only 1 accident...
Any ideas of who to contact for a better price (yes I DO have the list of all the insurers), but i'm looking for personal experiences here!
Let me know who you're insured with and their website details, so i can have a butchers....
Admiral will do it for
Ԛ£524 fully comp (10 month)
Ԛ£433 TPFT (10 month)
Cheers
Neil P

Neil sounds stupid but do the renewal online as if you hadn't got a policy with your 1 years ncb and all your other info. Put that you have had another quote of say Ԛ£300 and see what you come up with.
A similar thing happened to me with NU, they tried charging what was in effect Ԛ£150 extra for the renewal form that came through the post.
Other than elephant I would get a quote with NU, they do oline discount.

nope, i think thats e-sure or more than.
i am insured with only 1 years NCB, and last year got insured for my first year driving (17 year old, just past test) with no NCB, and they were the cheapest by about 500 quid, same again this year on the sport, they were about the only place that would touch me... or insure me for that matter

i got Ԛ£600 on a lowered 328is im 23 with 0ncb(2 right offs) driving for 6yrs.
the problem might be the area you live in, ask what postcode zone your in i live in edinburgh but work in east lothian and told insurance the cars moslty at work and keeped there overnight sometimes so they said i should use that as kept address for the car. The difference was Ԛ£200 my home postcode is group 22 but work is only 3, its works similar to engine size and car type. E30 M3 group 20 E30 316i only about 7-8 i think.
Hope that makes sense.

There's no discernable logic to insurance quotes. Different companies give different weighting to different criteria.
The only way to get the cheapest quote is to put in an hour or two at the keyboard/on the phone.
Most companies try it on with their renewal quotes.

ive heard confused.com can be cheap, a lot of people here seem to be with Adrian Flux also.
I always a bit suspicious of the 10 month bonus accelerator because Im not sure if other companies will accept it as 1 years NCB

A word of warning about the Elephant 10 month policies, I had one and found that the majority of insurers don't recognise it as a full years NCD. It seems only Elephant and Admiral recognise it.
Every other insurer I phoned asked who my 1 years NCD was with, they asked if it was a 10 month policy, I said yes and they would only give me a quote for zero NCD.
I ended up getting a 12 month policy with Elephant for the second year just so I can bin them next time and get a classic policy (Adrian flux Ԛ£268 fully comp up to 10k miles per year on a 325i).
Only 3 months to go on my wellyphant policy
Cheers,
Iain T

cheers for the info, are there any restrictions on the classic policy? ie using it for commuting, where it is parked, minimum NCB etc?Templ8e30 wrote:A word of warning about the Elephant 10 month policies, I had one and found that the majority of insurers don't recognise it as a full years NCD. Iirc you need a minimum of 2 years NCD, no restriction on parking or commuting use but the maximum is 10,000 miles per year. I'll only be doing about 7k miles so I'm well within.Kramer wrote:Templ8e30 wrote:A word of warning about the Elephant 10 month policies, I had one and found that the majority of insurers don't recognise it as a full years NCD. direct line have been great for me i'm 21 and ive been with them for 3 years now, i made 2 minor claims but for some reason they kept my NCB in tact!!! this year i payed about 470 but made a claim after it was broken into and they gave me 450 cash in loo instead of replacing the door lip and when i changed my car a few weeks ago from what was a honda civic 1.5 lsi to 1990 bmw 325i se it only costs 28 quid to change over with 2 months remaining. I've looked at what it will cost me come renewal when i'm 22 and its going to be around the 460 mark for tpft and about 100 more for fully comp but i don't think its worth it. i seriously suggest checkin directline out i can't fault them really.

The accident and only 1 year NCB works against you.
I got mine down to Ԛ£350 with e-sure but im 34 full NCB, thatcham imobiliser, garaged, limited milage, different area etc
Have a go on http://www.confused.com/pages/index.jsp?MediaCode=100 and see what they can do

Also the cheapest might not be the best
I have heard some horror stories about people getting cheap quotes but then have a nightmare getting any money from the company. better to pay a little more and insure with a company who have a good reputation iro claims service
