wheeler dealers carbon engine clean

BMW recognised the potential for coking up cylinders in city driving and on page 48 of the owners manual said
"After driving for a while in dense city traffic or bumper to bumper we reccomend allowing your engine to breathe deeply by driving for a few miles at engine speeds above 3000 rpm.
This will help eliminate any carbon build-up in the cylinders"
Gotta love BMWs driving tips.

I was going to try this engine cleaning but I'd have to remove my fuel magnets and it took ages to set them up properly to balance with my 12V Supercharger.
I haven't actually put the car on the dyno but I don't need to because it feels much snappier and responsive. I'm sure I'm getting better fuel economy too, especially since I changed to super unleaded because I don't have to use as much throttle on my daily commute. I currently get 150miles per £39 which isn't bad really.

Sea foam is crap.. (search seafoam e30 on YouTube and you'll see me!) it's another 'miracle cure' that does sod all.. A placebo for car owners..
When I was a kid my friend Ryan's dad used to make 'powerballs' in his garage and had a whole touring show devoted to it, they used to go to car events and have a little stand with a spark plug and some standard ignition leads and one with this power thing attached, little did people realise the ball was just a resin ball on the lead and did nothing! And the setup at shows had the coil on the standard lead powered with resistors in line for a weaker spark!
But people shelled out £10 or £20 a lead and even turned up at later events saying how remarkable the results were..
You couldn't make it up!!

Its amazing just how much people, even those that should know better, get sucked in by this sort of thing.parkin10 wrote:tom what a bleeding scam!

Back in the mid 80's the great Peter Brock (Australian Touring Car Champion) begun putting a device in the GMH (General Motors Holden) cars he was selling called an "Energy Polariser". GMH sent it back to Detroit for testing by their engineers and concluded it did absolutely nothing. He continued to believe in and publicly endorse the device even after GMH told him to stop puting it in their cars to the extent that it cost him his contract with GMH. Fortunately his good sense returned and he went on to race an E30 M3.
A mate of mine bought a 9 year old Maestro once (times were hard back in those days and he was skint). He then thought that looking after it and servicing it would be a good idea so bought some Wynn's Engine Flush and followed the instructions.
It may have worked well removing all the crap from the engine but several days later, after all the crap that was probably holding the engine together had disappeared, the engine decided it was no longer for this world and died spectacularly.
From then on always known as "Wynn's Engine F*ck" and never gone anywhere near again.

How about this.... a couple of months ago i serviced my range rover diesel p38 ... new fuel, air, oil filters, fluids etc
i bought and was recomended a fuel injector/system cleaner, that you prime the fuel filter with, and thats what it said on the box... so filled the fuel filter with it after the service...start engine and drive for a few miles straight away
thats whats i did
a week later i broke down
at 4am !!!!! it kept cutting out and i limped toi a safe place to top
breakdown comes out , has a look, "have you serviced it or added any fuel additives ?" i explained what id done and the fuel stuff,he then says that you have to add that to the fuel tank not prime the filter, and wouldnt have it that you can get ones you prime filter with and im saying likem you should know that ffs , anyway...he has a look round etc etc
"youve blown your injectors or some of them, and blown the tips off, and £180 each, plus all the labour, its basicly fooked and a £700 bill or so" ive shat myself, had a sleepless night
next day.... my mate comes round has a look, a quick fiddle.... i think the fuel filter is randomly faulty by looks of it, replace the fuel filter and its been fine ever since
