atfer a few exchanges via pm, touretti (the guy who defends and stands up for jay aka chipped uk) has accepted my challange.
it is as follows, if he can produce 20hp from my 318is ANYWHERE in the rev range i will pay for his work and give him credit due and if it dont he will pay me what i paid for the car and donate Ԛ£1000 to a charity of my choice. the car will be tested on the rollers for a bench figure first, but if the engine is 7-10hp down on the factory figure it will not go ahead as the car may be showing signs of worn cams etc.

whats the score here? is the 20bhp to be produced from a chip or remap only? or is it 20bhp by what ever means he can? i dont know the power of a 318is but a chip will generally give about 5-10% increase on a non turbo car,so unless your cars got about 200 bhp , 20bhp will be a bit of a tall order. should be interesting though, any idea of when its happening yet?

from a "mapped chip" which means his off the shelf chips like the on advertised in the link to his add, to be honest even with a session on the rollers i doubt he cold get 20hp anywhere in the rev range and 15hp peak.
138hp is the factory figure, add 25 to that is 163. now thats 90hp per litre, e36 m3 s50 makes 95 p/l and the evo 100 p/l, that with state of the art ecu, vanos and lots of sensors. i'm confident that i'll win, and as they say charity starts at home!!

This is very interesting indeed. If he can manage it then he deserves a lot of credit. So this is gonna be an 'off the shelf' chip then, he's not gonna live map your car? Or am I arse about tit.....

If I was you I would be cautious, 20bhp gain might be achievable in the short term with massive fuelling etc, doesn't say your car has to survive or be driveable does it......

Jaysons chips are rubbish, and you wont get your money. Although you will probably end up with a mullered engine where he hasnt got the fuel right and has leaned it off so much you get melted pistons. Or runs it so rich it wont get anywhere near standard power.

For years he's quoted utter nonsense and backed it up with "and I'll prove it". Well now gents, is his chance. Money where his mouth is etc.
I'd like to know which rollers they are planning to use for the test and what kind of a relationship the operators have with chippedUK. It will also be interesting to see if any other factors are altered on the roller's settings between the 2 runs. i.e. atmospheric pressure, temp etc.
You could run exactly the same car without even swapping a chip and gain 20bhp just by 'fudging' the inputs to the r.r.. Hopefully that won't happen and we'll get a clean result.
Looking forward to the result.

I hear iS's respond very well to a remap/Chip. There have been cases where 20bhp has been achived but at the cost of serioulsy bad fuel economy and near enough zero driveability.
make sure you make it very clear.......the car must be driveable!
I dont think this is childish at all. If the chips are good then lots of people can benefit from them and if they are crap then people can save their money (and buy and engine with the correct number of pistons!)

the viper chip i had made economy shocking and overfuelled my car (black smoke.) also misfired above 5000 in 2nd n 3rd someyimes
normal chip back in an it was sorted!! yet tried it on my mates IS an it seemed ok

I went to the Uk myself for E30 parts a few times last year. Bought a few things from Jay on one occasion and lets just say i hope he's severely embarasssed and ridiculled from the results.

It is very odd how many people talk of the chips blowing your engine but does anyone really know of a single case where this is true.
Added to that, look at the rolling road shootouts this forum as well as all of the other bmw forums have organised and who has come top every time.
You will find that through total bmw magazine they indipendently tested this chip with the chairman of the irish bmw owners club car and tested it in dublin where the car gave 16hp at just under 4000rpm and an overall gain of 14hp so this is not exactly an unproven entity.
Now we al know that the first chips overfueled and caused problems but money was invested and a proven chip that works all the time was developed as many people on here know but where are you to admit this, many people here run the viper2 or the new extreme so whats the deal there.
In fact the 4 leading members of the bmw owners club including the chairman, secretary, club advertising director and e30 registrar all run these chips and not one have had any issue.
Too many of you stick to the problems when Jay started but after over Ԛ£150,000 of investment this is now a serious market contender and with the Dimsport contract for the uk it can only grow so as agreed, Ԛ£1000.00 will be paid if a gain of 15hp is not made in the rev range on this engine, it must also be fully drivable, not show any sign of detenation throughout the rev range and also fuel within UK laws.
If this is accomplished all that kos will have to pay is the costs involved which will be around Ԛ£600.00 but if the figure is not achieve kos will be refunded all of his costs to include fuel, food as well as his daily wage he would of had if he had gone to work instead.
A picture of the before and after map of the 318iS will be posted here in around 20 minutes as Jay is doing the race2000 map for me to add so stay tuned.

I have the viper2 in my iS, it produced 146bhp when i had it on the rollers a while back. Unforturnately i never had a dyno run with the standard chip.
All i can say is my iS runs 100% with the Viper2 fitted, economy is very slightly worse, say 1 or 2 mpg, but nothing too noticeable.
The car runs smoother with the Viper 2, give Jay a break.
I have nothing bad to say about the guy, he did me a good deal when i bought the chip, delivered quickly etc
I am the BMW car club E30 registrar as mentioned by tourerti, and know many other people running Jay's chip with no problems.
Although i would be interested in tourerti / Jays comments on my dyno plots i have, as i reckon there is plenty more power to be had from my car...

Here is the image of the drop map at 3940rpm on the e30 318iS as promised.

You can see the natural flaw in the map retarded at the factory by bmw to lower the power so the car didnt out perform the 320i.
Demlotcrew himself ran the viper2 after it was finalised and as far as is known he was happy with it.
Also your very own magazine writer andrew everett tested the chip for a bmw magazine and was very happy with the results.
I think its time people stopped spreading gossip and respected the hundreds of hours Jay puts into his work as has been proven not once, not twice but many hundreds of times.
How do you become the UK`s biggest supplier of bmw tuning chips and remaps if the work isnt upto scratch.

Yes i had a few mods on the car and it held its own with 325i sports, but i dont think it was making + 25bhp from stock.

The map is very clear, you have a shot of the before and after power using a shot of 3940rpm at a 71% load, this is how mapping is done in 3d visual using the likes of winOLS or Race2000 which are the 2 leading programming tools availible in the world.
We are talking about a challenge to produce 15hp in the rev range which if the engine is in decent condition will be achived, it is a no brainer and a challenge that cant be lost, the natural dip itself is 18hp from bmw.
They issued the car with the added power which was then removed before productional sales commenced so it is like having a car that is limited too 155mph when in fact it can do 190mph then someone saying it cant do 170mph when originaly the car is proven to actually do more than 170mph.
Its a silly challenge but one which will be done happily at any time.
