Ok, not entirely sure i am going to sell, but it may be an option depending on how much i wind up 'not' using the car now that my wifes job had changed and i'll be using the family car for work (and to and from work is pretty much the only time i useually get to use my car).... My kids and and wife would'nt want to travel in the e30 as much as i wouldnt want them in it!!

Anyway, I'll try and do this properly to make it a worth while thread, and supply lots of information.

Here are a couple of pics:

It’s a 1988 Motorsport Edition and is 1 of only 40 produced from the original series of Motorsport Editions.
Further more it’s a Manual car of which I believe only 23 were produced?

All the later Motorsport Editions were produced in greater numbers (however in totality I think only 590 Motorsport Editions were ever made, with the vast majority being fitted with Automatic transmissions.

The original 40 were all built in Macau Blue (listed as Sonderlack on the paint sticker- meaning special laquer). And fitted with Indigo Blue soft-top roofs. Most were de-chromed and all were metal bumper, non body kitted cars with manual roofs and full Silver Grey leather upholstery, including seats, door cards and door pulls (even the inside of the door pockets) the centre consoles including the lids of the ashtrays and the rear quarter panels were also trimmed in leather. Further more these cars were fitted with M-Tech suspension and Limited slip differentials.

Over the years the ”˜Motorsport Edition’ title has been revered on both the E30’s and the small number of E24’s that were also made, and have carried a premium price accordingly. My 1988 car is where it all began, as an alternative offered by BMW GB to the ”˜then new’ Left hand drive only E30 M3 convertible (I wonder how many tens of thousands of pounds one would have to pay for one of those now).

My particular car is fitted with aftermarket wheels (a negative point no doubt, but easily changed) and a period M-tech 1 bodykit, which in my opinion makes the car look much better than the non kitted cars, and is more in keeping with its age, than the M-tech 2 kit.
The manual roof works as it should as do all the electrics. And the car is also fitted with an M-tech 2 steering wheel (I think it’s the smaller sized one)?
It drives exactly as it should, pulls strongly and tracks and stops as it should. Even with the larger wheels, the car does not crash, bang and knock from its suspension.

Perhaps the most important thing though (next to the cars Motorsport Edition status) is that the car is solid, with all the arches, boot, scuttle, sills, doors etc, suffering no rust!!

The car has covered 113,000 miles but with lots and lots of stamps, receipts, previous MOT’s etc to back it up and show that lots of corrective and preventative works have been carried out on the car. And the car is also fitted with a Scorpion stainless steel exhaust system that makes the car sound sublime.

The last owner had the car for 7 years, and used her for extended periods as a second and sometimes third car, and last month she passed an MOT with flying colours.

The car is no concourse winner, and as she currently is, could do with valve adjustment, a seat bolster repair and the de-chroming refurbishing, and there are a couple of slight marks here and there, but as you can see from the pictures she looks great, and as time allows, there is every chance that if I do decide to sell, I will have addressed the issues mentioned above”¦”¦

So, hopefully I have made this a worth while ”˜Whats she worth’ thread”¦..

Any thoughts on pricing, if I were to advertise her on Pistonheads (if nobody on the forum was interested in her).

Its a tricky one to price as its not all original spec. But other than the wheels there is nothing changed that doesn't go with the period of the car.

If it was me I would try and pick up a cheap set of 15" BBS and have them refurbed in the motorsport style with the centres painted nagaro and the lips silver. Thats easily going to cost you £100 - £150 for the wheels with caps, £170+ for the refurb and another £180 for decent tyres (Azon Zv-5 or equivalent). So ball park £500 on the wheels.

At that I would price it at £4K - 5K, with the current wheels £4K tops.

Just my opinion and I'm no expert, but the ones priced at £5K+ are not selling very quickly if at all so it all depends on how quickly you weant to get rid.

Here is a another similar motorsport for sale on here at 7K, it has wheels worth about 1K on it and is tech 2 so slightly more common.

http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... c&t=216970

No offence to yours but the colour combination is more desireable, and to be honest I am sure this is the same car that was for sale last year and never sold.

It will all come down to what people are willing to pay, the danger is price it too highly and it will be up for sale for ever, and as people then start to see it advertised for a long time they will start to think something is wrong with it.

It looks a nice car, I have one of these too.

Sounds like you are in a similar position to me. The Wife won't go near it and much as my 2 year old son loves going in it, I don't travel far with him in it. Still it only costs £100 to insure it. So i'm keeping mine for a while.

All the Motorsport stuff is still there, although as has been said its not exactly as it left the factory, which will limit its value. However the mods are nothing OTT and if its solid thats a real selling point.

I reckon you'd get £3-3.5k and probably sell quite easily with the weather starting to pick up. You might get more but would likely be waiting longer.

Thanks for the comments...... I see some of the later cars at 7-8k upwards and i see specialist garages selling nice condition 320i convertibles at 5-6k, then i see £1800 being a starting point for half decent NON motorsport editions convertibles, and was thinking of placing mine at about £3500.00 as she stands currently, with the wheels and bolster wear etc....

Sound like a fair price? I think i remember a 1988 motorsport Edition being advertised for that price several months ago, and that car had lots of rot, a 150k on the clock and was in such a state it was almost just a 'spares' car. Ofcourse i am unsure what the car actually sold for.

Well, we'll see how it goes..... IF i decide to sell i'll be sure to let the forum know. Although i think i would quite like to still have an E30 as the ownership experience is every bit as good as i remember from the 3 i had back in the mid 90's, and a nice, clean 325i Auto Touring could tick all the boxes as a 3 series i could use every day with the family and replace the E36 Touring.

The problem i have, is having another toy already that very rarely gets used, having two toys that just sit there doing nothing is not acceptable.

The prices above are fair, I think. If you want to break the 4k limit you need photo evidence of NO rust - get a tripod and properly photograph all the panels, and get the lens inside all the arches to show there's no rot where the inners meet the sill. Rust anywhere will cause the value to plummet, so proving yours doesn't have any will be a big bonus.

Also get a shot of the engine bay, making sure it's clean. That way sellers will see past your advertising spiel to the real facts of the matter.

They might even be enough to detract from your terrible taste in wheels...

Haven't you recently bought the car?

I've got several cars at home too and get constantly nagged that the Cabi stays in the garage most of the time and only comes out on sunny days,....nag, nag, nag. However, I wouldn't sell it! :D

Yeah, I have only just bought the car..... I have a jag, that i have had for years, and it's my real P&J but see's little use (180 miles in the last 18 months) Knowing that i have no intention of selling (I advertised her, and got cold feet the second I had a phone call from someone wanting to come look at her). So i sold my CLK with the plan to use the E30 on a daily basis for the nice drive along the coast i do to and from work.

However, last night my wife was offered a new position with a change to her hours, so now i have to take the 1 year old to the child minder and the 3.5 year old to Nursery every day, meaning I’ll be using the family car..... I don’t have garage space for the E30 so seems a little silly to have it sitting on the road, taxed and insured and only being used once every now and then. And then I’d be not finding any time at all to use the Jag.

I have 4 weeks anyway until my wife changes her job, and then I’ll probably see if there is some way i can get out of the school run and justify keeping the E30. Just thought I’d explore the sale route.

I understand, now. That's a difficult one - especially if there's no storage for the cab. I don't think I'd like to leave it out in all weathers, it won't do it any good.

All the best, what ever your decision. Keep us informed. :D

swap you :D ..

it's nice.. very nice.. I'd happily chuck £3.5k at it.. wheels or not ( a minor point IMO as I can pick up BBS for peanuts so I don't see the fuss) it's the shell / paint / roof I'd be worried about..

BMW optioned BBS RZ's in standard silver, with Nogaro centers and Granite silver centers motorsport is just a word. if it were an M3 there are 2 types of basketweave 16" alloys fitted to the evos and then sport evolutions, but it is not.

£3500-£4500 imo with the correct wheels :)

^^ Ofcourse it matters even at that price, 3.5k aient cheap money for an old car for many people, only people who know about these cars would want to buy one, therefore originality is the key. All E30 drivers are anal :)
