TOYO T1-R's or Goodyear Eagle F1's
Moderator: martauto
I'm looking to buy some new rubber and narrowed it down to the the T1-R's or F1's, there's about £15 per tyre difference.
Just wanted peoples opinions, the garage told me the Toyo's won't last as long as the compound is more geared towards grip than wear.
I know alot of people are wearing the Toyo's, what sort of mileage are people getting out these?
PS. I don't drift or race the old girl, sunday drives in the sun is what it's all about.

If you're not giving it beans everywhere, the toyos will last plenty of time.
I've had T1-R's on my turd for nearly a couple of years now, the rears have seen plenty of 1/4 mile action and still look like new.

I've had both toyo and f1s in exactly the same size on my e30 m3 and much prefer how it drives on the toyos.
It's more predictable when it lets go, and te limits in the first place are higher. Most suprisingly the toyos were better in the wet.
I swapped the rear wheels back to a pair with f1s when I refurbed them and the limits were noticably lower.

Had F1's on the E36 diesel touring, really harsh ride compared to toyo's that went on after, I think the F1 has a stiffer sidewall.

Can anyone suggest how to test if the boot lights are staying on with the boot shut?

They were'nt last time I checke you could get the in 16's, and 17's. I had them on my E30, best tyres I've had on there so far.Blitz wrote:I did not know they still made F1's for 205/55/15.

For a road tyre, i've found the hankook ventus v12 sport evo (yes that really is the name!) to be better than the Toyos. Better wet grip and especially better grip when it's just damp and slimy. They seem to last better too. The toyo's however are better on track and for spirited driving as they're that bit more predictable on the limit.

If not pushed too hard the T1R's will be fine but from my experience they do wear down fast. On track however they don't fair to well, the tread is so thin that they lose the edges very quickly, what I experienced any way.
My E36 M3 has a full set of F1s and it needed a new one for its mot. Tyre shop said they now come as run-flats and without the V tread. Bought an aysametric instead.
E30s had a full set of 16'' Toyos on for about 8k miles. I do drive it quick and there's no appreciable wear showing yet.

The tyre shop is taking sh1te. Goodyear F1's are now aysimetric but they are not all runflats.

Ive used T1R's on a track day once, I would never use them again, once they get hot they literally fall apart and as a result you have to drive slower!rix313 wrote:If not pushed too hard the T1R's will be fine but from my experience they do wear down fast. This shows why they are good on the road though, they work best at low temps.
I have them on my road E30 and they are great

I bought a set of these Hankooks for my E36 last year and they replaced Toyo T1Rs in the same size...gareth wrote:That's because your car is always in bitsE30BeemerLad wrote:If you're not giving it beans everywhere, the toyos will last plenty of time.

The Hankooks (IMHO) are as good as the Toyos in the dry, maybe a bit better in standing water and slightly less good in damp/greasy conditions...They are also a lot quieter with a better ride overall...
However, I'd add a proviso...they are *very* sensitive to pressure...Too low and they feel sluggish and too high and they loose grip and feel skittish...The Toyos are much more tolerant..

I must admit, i put some of the overheating Toyo syndrome i had down to a 1400kg 220bhp car on 205'sDanThe wrote:gareth wrote:That's because your car is always in bitsE30BeemerLad wrote:If you're not giving it beans everywhere, the toyos will last plenty of time.

They're also very odd feeling for the first 100 miles or so until they scrub in a bit... As you say, the pressures need to be right for the load and use.Fushion_Julz wrote: I bought a set of these Hankooks for my E36 last year and they replaced Toyo T1Rs in the same size...

I've got T1R's on the M3 too. Can't fault them for the money and I've used them on a few other cars. I had a 500bhp Mustang shod with T1R's and they coped well with the power and weight. Did one trackday on them in the Mustang and they did go too soft and lose traction quite quickly, but never had that problem on the road or the 1/4 mile.
The tyres on the Mustang were on 10K miles when I sold it and there was bags of life left in them. Good tyres IMHO.

my e30 m3, e36 m3, and the mrs' mk2 golf gti all have a full set of t1-r on at the moment. the best value tyre i've ever used. good grip, last surprisingly well, decent ride, not overly noisy.
note, i'm not saying theyre the best you can buy, but imho you have to spend quite a lot more money to get a decent improvement in just one of those areas.
theyre not great on track though, they overheat pretty easily and roll the tread over. ok on lighter stuff, but you'll kill a set pretty quickly on something bigger / heavier, although a few hundred road miles has worked wonders on tyres i thought were knackered in the past, and scrubbed them back to haw theyre supposed to be.

Ditto. Mine, looked pretty horrible after the trackday but by the time I'd driven the 200 odd miles home they looked in good shape again and performed fine.harry_p wrote:....although a few hundred road miles has worked wonders on tyres i thought were knackered in the past, and scrubbed them back to haw theyre supposed to be.
