Hi guys I was wondering what gearboxes can I put on my e30 318is it is turbo charged want a decent box I don't go mad all the time what boxes could I use cheers all
5 speed ZF box from an E36 328i/M3 3.0 would be an upgrade from the getrag 240 you have but depending on how much power and torque you have the getrag should be ok.

E36 boxes are direct 5th whereas E30 boxes are overdrive, ie you will need a longer ratio diff somewhere around 2.93 - 3.25.318isturbo wrote:Do e36 gearboxes fit on e30's then

I think the diff is 3:71 LSD don't really go for a big top speed to be fair I'm more acceleration
Just want a good all round box that's why I was thinking 325
My bhp will be around 290 and torque 300 ish

that's a lot of power and torque from a 1.8 turbo! should be interesting to see how it goes! you got a build thread?318isturbo wrote:I think the diff is 3:71 LSD don't really go for a big top speed to be fair I'm more acceleration

I ain't unfortunately I'll dig out some pics I took over the years been doing it in stages it's the time and money where I have a everyday car It can be months between doing anything to it but I've had it 8 years now and not looking at selling it any time soon no rush I guess lol
With 300 bhp and a 3.7 diff, an overdrive 5 speed box is what you need. The E36 310/320ZF will be very low geared. The ideal box is the 5 speed 260 from the very early 24v 520i/525i but they are ultra, ultra rare - only first few thousand cars had them. An E30 325i box will fit, but sit at a different angle - not the end of the world but not ideal.
Really? I've only ever had two, both from H plate 520i's. I wouldn't give it away - minimum £150.DanThe wrote:E34 overdrive box here, just what the doctor ordered and going cheap
The bellhousing code letters are TAHO, TAHO or AHS. Both mine were TAHO.
