Has any zoner who drives/likes driving automatics ever thought of fitting the engine/box out of a 525 ETA, rumour has it (its 2.7 litre by the way) that hp is still the same however 40+ mpg can be got with careful pedal control!!! anyone shed light on this??? :)

The reason i bring this up, the 2.5 lump is not very economical, many zoners complain on the mpg factor, surely 40+ mpg is worth a thought???? 8O

Come on then fellas do your best, so what if its 40hp down from 171hp, is not the fuel saving worth considering? im sure a 6 branch+ scorpion+k&n+electric fan would help on the perfomance, speed isn't everything is it ????

Superetas were more powerful but I don't remember the official power figure. About 140 rings a bell, but they weren't produced for long so they're like rocking horse shíte even over here.

You gonna stick one in then? Be interesting to see what kind of fuel consumption you would get

Its just thought on the drawing board at the mo, many, many E30 325 owners moan and gripe about fuel consumption even manual cars! lets face it when the E30 was 'IN ITS PRIME' fuel was not a consideration was it £1.25 a gallon, somewhere in that region? nowadays the cost of motoring (pleasure) is a tad more expensive!!!im just thinking of way's to save a few bucks!!! 8O

buy a 316 if you worry about fuel, with the eta lump you would have to change the sump, then swap the engine, then tell your insurance you are now driving a 2.7, insurance goes up as a modded car, no money saved
if there wern't people like me,
with cars like mine,
who would you put down to make yourself feel better?

This forum should change its name to 'the Bitches' zone, on every topic there is a huge line up of zoners 'bustin a gut' to shoot down anyones ideas in flames!!! the last guy had a go about the difference between 2.5 nd 2.7, are we speaking of hundreds or thousands??? 8O

Not bitching just giving other options a healthy 1.8m40 is going to save fuel as is the m42, just came across as your main concern being fuel cost and giving you other options jeeesus chill out.

thats what i fitted to my cabby, the 525e lump, exept i threw the sump, head/inlet side in the dustbin! it is a 2.7 lump but is restricted by the pee sized valves/cam/inlet/ecu side of things.

fit it with 2.5 head/running gear and unleash it!! winkeye

That will do nothing! As the head is very restricted. Vales are even smaller than a 731 head. IMO stick the lump in but u will soon get bored of it, then whack off the 200 head, straight in the bin & fit either a 731 or 885 head complete with manifold and injectors

And then bolt on a zaust manifold, scorpion, fan and whatever else.... Then u will see the power...

E30s & fuel economy dont go, unless its a 324td.... And they are pretty rare in the uk ... Want a cheap car good on fuel? Find a nissan micra forum... Good day

i would just like to say, i love the E30 in my humble opinion its the nicest saloon car ever, obviously lamborghinis are something else!!!if i was blessed with £150,000 thats what i would have,,but i don't have much money so an E30 it is,,and the reason i am 'stuck' with automatics is i am disabled nd have to drive with hand controls, would love to make it a wee bit more economical!!! :( so guys feel free to stick the boot in!!!!

In that case, your best option is to find a 316/318 auto..... Keep it simple.

Saves you putting in an engine and spending money when all u want is economy, so 316/18 it is.

i was simply saying you will not save money, looking in the book is says 1040kg unladen 318i , 1160kg 325e, thats an extra 120kg to pull around, 318i 105hp eta 122, fuel consumption according to din 70 030/1 ece standard test method , 318i @56mph 47.1 , 325e @56mph 44.1

also with the insurance going up so much they try and stiff you any way possible.

now to your attitude, i resently posted up about abuse happening on the zone,so i would not post abuse or as you sa bustin a gut, i have offered advice, to save you money. also the eta in a325i has been done so its not a new idea.

i dont like your comments because you have not heard the answers you wanted. you must also take on peoples opinions, weather you like them or not, too many come on here with an idea or statement , dont get the answer they wanted and kicked off like you did.

maybe you should listen to people on here there is a lot of knowledge and experience, you will find if you pee people off they may not want to help when you really need it

You have serious insecurity issues, nobody is sticking the boot in, you asked for opinions you got em, an aging m20b27 lump is probably not the best way to go for economy improvements, people have told you that in their own special way. AJSingh's comments about restrictive head etc are the reasons that it would be difficult to improve that type of engine.

Dry your eyes, man up a bit for fook sake.
