i was thinking of changing the exhaust for the above when it needs it. i would be after a non performance one with a standard tail pipe finish.

do they make standard style exhausts in stainless steel (just want it to be one thing that wouldnt need to be replaced again)

wouldnt the extra cost be worth it if you were planning to keep the car for many years :)

The extra cost is worth it, if you are going to keep the car for a long time, but finding a non-performance stainless exhaust might take some time...

Near me there is a place called RMS that will make any custom exhaust you want in stainless not sure if they could make to order without seeing the car. If you google RMS prestwick in Ayrshire Scotland you'll get there details. Did a full system for a pulsar gtir I had a few years back for £400

Depending how far down you are there's a place up near Bath junction of the M4 called Infinity, I'm getting one done there in the near future.

surely a brand new exhaust from BMW would be the best way to go, if you didnt want performance stainless, thats still good for 20 years ,a custom made standard stainless one, wouldnt me made as good as bmws performance wise would it, sounds a bit daft to me

look up the pics someone posted of a standard bmw exhaust cut open posted the other day 8O

why couldnt a stainless steel exhaust be made as well as a bmw one? do you realise the cost of a complete bmw exhaust system?

i want a exhaust to last for years. mines a 318 touring so theres no point buying a boy racer exhaust that will be to loud. stainless doesnt rust, so thats why i want one. it sounds daft to you because its not a tec 1 sport exhaust

sports exhaust has nothing to do with it, i put a new standard one (not bmw) on my old is

if you read my post properly...a bmw will last 20 years, is that not long enough ? and a bmw one ie engineered to precision and made for your car , like i said...if you saw the thread/pics of the oem bmw one cut open, youd then see why they are the price they are and youd know a custom company would not be able to custom build one as good but in stainless

you want a "standard" exhaust, you then have the argument of stainless lastability VS bmw performance and quality, the stainless wont be as good performance wise and wouldnt be a stainless version of a bmw one by a long shot i dbout

a brand new bmw system would win for me and would be a nicer car with it

your post was hard to read properly... i doubt the bmw exhaust would last 20years. i dont need performance, just longativity

im sure there are plenty of good custom exhaust people out there who would disagree with you

you still need standard performance, you dont want a "drop" in performance form standard/how it is now do you, so you still need performance, you just dont need performance gains, an exhaust is an important part of a car/engine

custom stainless exhausts, are mostly performance gain thing arnt they ? they make it out of stainless but are often straight throughs with not much inner workings going on, which is also why they are louder and faster, and they wont have the inner engineering and workings of a standard bmw system

ask yourself this...why, if a standard and bmw Equivalent, but stainless, exhaust.. probably isnt made or avalable to buy anywhere ??

there are companys out there who provide these types of exhausts for classic cars, so it should be possible for mine.

just because the market would be small (me) doesnt make it a bad idea. i could get one made up for half the price of a bmw one and get a life time warranty.

you dont understand one thing- a 318iAuto touring is not a fast car, so whether its a copy, original bmw or custom built stainless exhaust so long as it fits and doesnt need replacing again thats all i want.

then why not just put a bosal on it ?? which will still last plenty of years and if need be buy a new one in 10 years, IF you had the car still then and it rotted...

Got to agree on the standard BMW system, if you want standard looks, and standard sound you won't go wrong with a BMW boysen made system.

BMW didn't put the systems together just by putting a load of pipes and boxes together underneath an E30 in an hour or two.

Why do you specify not a performance one out of interest? If it's noise you're worried about they can be built to suit your requirements and be as noisey or indeed as quite as you want.

I'll speak to the lot up my way. I know they do discounts if a couple of you turn up together. They quoted me roughly £270 for a system for my car. What engine is it for?

its a m40 318 auto. non performance because i didnt want it any louder than standard. i just want it to look standard, with no rust in the future. i want to powdercoat the rear beam etc to have it look nice, and last longer so this is my reason for wanting stainless.

the sport stainless exhausts on an iS and 325i i understand these look good, sound great but performance isnt my thing with my 318 auto touring.

people may not see the point with what im trying to acheive with my car, but each to their own. some like to spend money on performance upgrades, engines etc. im just trying to get mine as mint as possible (in my eyes)
