Gutted for you, although luckily it all sounds repairable with original panels etc.

Make sure it isn't repaired at a 'garage of their choice'!!

Most important question is what kind of insurance do you have? Unless it's some kind of agreed value policy, then your car will definitely be a Cat C write off, and you will be offered peanuts.
I strongly recommend yo get advice from Beemerlad on here, ASAP.

What Brian said!!

You'll get bummed for insurance in future also because of the added risk whether it's a non-fault or not. Really does p*ss me off with insurance how this happens, sometimes you're better off in the long run not claiming :( sucks...

Classic insurance policy with agreed value, although value probably below true market price.

Propshaft rebuilt (bearing & carrier)
The list goes on.....

If you have a genuine agreed value policy with a certificate of valuation, this is your key to getting either a sensible payout for the car or hopefully getting the repairs authorised.

Although it is tempting to just ask the insurers of the berk who hit you to deal with this, they will just look at your car as a 20 year old BMW and want to pay you £1k for the write off.

So, asssuming you do have an agreed value policy, you are best off using that, paying your excess (unless they agree to waive it) and getting the claim properly dealt with rather than messing about with the third party insurer.

No certificate of valuation.
When policy was taken out, agreed value placed at 1700.00, too low now though.

Loads of geniuine bmw receipts, all mots, 2 full sets of keys, tool kit, first aid box, etc...

£150 excess for which current insurance company 'says' will be claimed back

I suspect you don't therefore have an "agreed valuation policy" unless you have something from the insurer categorically stating that the £1700 is an agreed value, otherwise this will just be classed as "insured valuation" and they will revert to whatever the "market value" is for the car. (glass' guide, Parkers Guide etc etc)

Worth a phone call to them to clarify this.

I suspect you are going to struggle for them not to write the car off now as there is a very good chance the repair costs will exceed 50% of the pre-accident value, which is the usual criterea for the insurer to decide it is an economic total loss.

Better start trawling the for sale sections everywhere for similar condition cars to prove the car is worth more than that. I feel this may be a painful experience with the insurance companies.

I did that and got them up to £3500 from the original £1000 offer.

I had an agreed $10K on my car policy which was lucky as the other insurance company did not even list cars of that age - automatic right off

Had a look in daylight with the guy that painted the car:

In addition to rear panel & bumper damage

Drivers rear quarter panel rippled
Drivers door sprung
Drivers seat broken back rest

Will attempt to clarify with insurance company re valuation.

Good luck, I think you'll needed it!

The insurance game is legalised theft. They might pay tax but drug dealers have more morals. :?

Own insurance company has advised it may be worth having a look at cars for sale in similar condition to get an approx value.

Had a look on Autotrader, not a lot there.

Can anyone provide links to cars for sale, in similar condition as my own based on the 1st post?

148k miles on clock.
No filler around rear wheel arches, etc...

Thanks.

Will the value differ from the rest of the UK than N. Ireland. I no it does on some cars engines size etc etc.

Good luck with proceedings.

Depending upon car type, values do differ, although this is largely due to market demand. After all its still the UK.

The car was bought in Scotland and brought to N. Ireland.

Present insurance company is in England as is the accident management company.

I wouldn't think in this circumstance it would make any difference.

Perhaps one could argue that is a car of similar conditon was in the south of England, transport costs could be added for shipping to N. Ireland.

Autotrader is just one example where i've looked.

Was hoping someone knew of one for sale in their own area which wasn't advertised on the normal channels.

Unfortunately over 'here' there is no E30's as per own example for sale.
