This is an E12 but a really good thread that details the work needed to make a car's bodywork truly sound. (It's tonybmw's gold E12 to save you clicking if you've seen it already.)

How longs a piece of string really. Only way you can get an answer is go get some poutes, hard to advise without even seeing to what extent the damage is.

Not to this thread - it's intended to be a reference thread. Start a separate one.

Not sure that some of the pictures in this thread are particularly useful as reference, given that they seem to feature vehicles that have been left to rot way beyond the point of rescue.

josh, you might as well stick your rust pics here. This is supposed to be the Hidden Horrors thread, not the Massively Obvious Orange Gaping Wound thread.

I got the impression it was supposed to be for identifying where rust lives on E30s, how to deal with it and so on. Not for quoting a price for someone's repair job...

There's a column for cost/time on the wiki page, and Skip mentions "when buying an E30" at the start; a simple idea of price per hour for welding, and how many hours to replace a sill or wheel arch, couldn't hurt anyone.

Here is a couple of pictures where the rust was on my 87 M3. I was unaware of this until the car was being corner weighed. The garaged advised me of the condition.

Drivers side

After

The passenger side also had rust, but not as bad. I only have a picture once it has been repaired.

The rest of the shell was not too bad.

Out of interest, anyone had their car acid dipped?

Something I will probably want to do in 5 years or so. Currently mine is 99% rust free (and it's stripped to a bare shell right now so I'm certain of it) but in a few years, acid dipped, any rust sorted properly and then re-dipped in the new electrically charged coatings they provide.

Will have to have a browse.

Would be terrified what potential horrors 20 + years of paint could be hiding though

The most pic-heavy restoration threads are listed in the Wiki:

If there's any I've missed, just point them to me and I'll add them.

You have missed steviebmw's rear arch repair thread.... :chuckle:
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.
