Yeah, just kept ahead on the straights, but just got in the way on corners.

Reasonable speed cars and bikes yo yo like that around there. Although bikes' acceleration is off the scale fast, their braking zones are longer (higher speed + less rubber on the road for braking) and their tight cornering speeds are often considerably lower, allowing cars to catch up surprisingly easily; unless the biker is highly skilled or suicidal!!!

I just started a business, otherwise Id go next weekend if I could get 4 or 5 cars to join in. How about spring 2012?

Ive done multiple Euro (and beyond) trips in E30s, so Im not just dreaming. That and snowboarding is what I do for holidays!

Anyone know of any trips planned, and if not, who would be provisionally up for it? Im sure we could do it in 4 or 5 days with a couple of days at the track, if you want to do it hardcore 'no sleep till Nordschliefe' style'.

Or take the scenic route and stop at places of interest along the way.

Anyone know of any trips that wont mind some people tagging along, or shall we start one. Im willing to do some organising of ferries and stuff, Im familiar with the whole process.

So come along chaps, who is up for some of the action depicted in the video?

I cant see it being massively costly. Depends if you want a hotel, or hostel or even camping I suppose.

Its not far. Not far off Portsmouth to Manchester. Im thinking early start, hit Dover for a 9ish o clock ferry, We'd be in Nurburg by that evening, for food and water. Then hit the Tollroad of Death next day.

Ill do some research on places to stay and make a thread in meets/events/shows. Im still happy to tag along with a group that regularly goes though, if anyone has any plans.

I've never done the research on costs or where to stay and what is needed (spare parts, tools, insurance, recovery, etc.) but have always fancied it! I'll have to factor in getting the car ready to go though as there are quite a few things that would need sorting before doing this!! May well give me the needed kick in the arse

If your car is sorted you can do it for circa 300-500 per head if you slum it a bit and don't want to do loads of laps. I have been four times and it is truly amazing.... Makes UK track days seem tame in comparison!

Yes I was factoring about 4-500. Recovery wise I have been well served by a normal AA Euro cover. they sorted me in Poland no problems. I had the cover specifically for the trip too, no need to sign up for a year. Not sure what the score would be if you blew up on the Ring though! Oh and I am an AA member anyway, so maybe they only temporarily bump up you cover if you ahve an existing membership with them. Ill check.

Im happy to slum it too, but I am looking into hostels and guesthouses that are away from Nurburg as well, to avoid any premuium they might charge for the enthusiasts. It wouldnt be the first time I just slept in the car though.

Any final arangements on accom would be down to how many we can get to go of course.

Im currently making enquiries for march/april to get christmas well out of the way. And for 10 or more, I have a couple of non E30 guys interested, one of which is a trackday guy. Tows his scoob, so Im sure he would take on some spares.

You probably are off the mark,sorry.
Most insurance companies will not cover you on here now due to the high amount of crashes and now class it as a race track.
There have been many arguments over this and some policys even name the ring as not being covered.

great iS vid - the biker comments remind me of the road I used to take to work, overtaking bikers in various spots was tremendous fun - one day the biker I decided to leave for UTTER DUST caught up further down the road on in a 30 zone - the covert blue lights came on and he ripped off the velcro blanking patches from his uniform where I received a stiff talking to in a layby. After the initial panic & dressing down routine, we had a light hearted chat about the whole thing a very proud of the fact he said it was some of the tidiest driving he'd ever seen in his career - I didn't go over 2000rpm the rest of the day

That's a sensible petrol + ferrry budget, budget a gallon+ per decent fast lap. Carry enough cash to buy petrol to get you home, we bought so much petrol they cancelled all of our cards assuming they had been stolen.

They can/will/do write your car off if the repatriation costs exceed the value of the car, which for a non M3 E30 they will, on ben lovejoy's nurburgring site the AA are down as a 'RING unfriendly company'.

I stayed 25miles south of the ring which was very cheap, they people from the UK come in from the north West so the expensive area extends further this way. If you stay really close you'll end up driving around the local roads to warm the car up. www.hotel.de is a good place to start.

I think 4 laps will do me. Having had a few days at Castle Coombe, I was bloody knackered after 10 laps of THAT.

Worth factoring possible damage to the track I see. So definately not worth driving the place while weary.
