Hi guys havent been on for a while, having a really good spruce up of everything before the m52 goes in, thought i take the interior out of for a bit of a clean up as it was starting to look tired and came across gliptone leather care, now purely by chance the place that makes the re-dye kits is based half a mile away from my unit so called in for a 1 litre re-dye kit.

I gave the guy a head res to get a match and picked it up the following day, i wont bore you with the details, i've completed the front door cards and the rears.

Heres a quick before and after of one of the door cards :)

Before

After a clean, moisturise and 4 coats of dye

I was suprised how easy the process is, and everything needed is provided in the kit, soft brush, cloths, etc.

I used a cheap paint brush but the sponge type not the normal hair type and the dye went on well, put a thicker dab over the really dark parts and dried with a hair dryer before applying a full coat to the door cards

Im just about to start the seats so will ad pics in a few days as and when thy're done :)

Thanks for looking

Looks like you have made a great transformation! Been looking into this but wondering if it will just leave a shiny finish or leave it to look like new leather?

Thanks for the comments :)

Im really pleased with the results they really have made it look brand new.

The dye does have some gloss in it but its a fairly matt finish, but there is a seperate bottle of gloss that comes with the kit so you can mix it to you own preference.

It smells really good too and theres a large square pad that is suspended under the seat that smells of leather :)

I've done 4 coats on each of the 4 panels and i havent even used half of it yet. Easily enough to do all the seats

To be fair i didnt think it looked that bad on the car its only when i started to clean and then dye i realised how much better it was

The interior should look amazing when its done, im even considering doing some carbon fibre hydrographing on some dash parts after recently buying a camo dip kit for one of my rifles

I have used Gliptone products several times and always been delighted with the result.

It is nesessary to follow the instructions to the letter for the best result, paying particular attention to the preperation.

Maybe the seats but them door cards look original, hence the vinyl comments.

Turn the door cards over and show the back.

Wow issues anyone?

I know the difference between leather and vinyl, i have spent days cleaning and prepping these, they're LEATHER, the the same leather as the seats, they're the same leather thats on the rear quarter cards

No issues here, I have lots of OE REAL leather door cards and they are a 2 piece card and completely different to a standard E30 door card.

As your cards are embossed as per the oe vinyl cards , and 'embossing' is not something most trimmers can do , I assume they are vinyl. If you flip one over and peel back one of the edges , the truth will be revealed, post a pic and let us doubters eat our words ! :)

Gliptone is a great product on leather, but it doesn't work so well on vinyl.

On leather it adheres quite well, and will take a lot of movment without cracking or flaking off.

It doesn't adhere so well on vinyl, and even when perfectly clean, the properties of the vinyl tend after a time to reject the painted surface, and it starts to flake off in flexed areas.

Be careful re-fitting the front door cards!

I dont need to peel the edges back, i can see the edge quite easily as theres a fair bit of spare leather on the rear of the cards :)
