Im not too bothered if an e36 would make a better daily driver, i find them offensive to my eyes in just about every sense. I really do detest them so much.
I like the idea of " whats ur favourite car " however mine being an e28 it wouldnt have full effect but its dam closer than he would be to his enzo.

fact of the matter is i could go and buy a evo 10 or a e46 m3 ect if i wanted but i choose not to as i like my e30 and i like messing around with it!

great attitude to have, be content not flash. why broadcast how well u can do if u wont enjoy the car u own. my dream car garage would probably consist of about 4 cars and the value in total wouldnt exceed 30 grand

My dream car garage does not consist of anything younger than 20 years old. I hate prety much all new cars, especially all these 'super'cars.

an e36 makes a better daily

and a decent e36 costs less than a decent e30

going on to funnybears post

300 for dealer diagnostics ...........

independent garage is significantly less, as is a main dealer.

you'll find most cars these days have dedicated forums that help owners deal with problems they may come up against

your point on the electronics makes no sense at all. what is true though that e30's have less electrics/ecu's sensors etc to go wrong, but when they go wrong they can be a pain to sort out

i think you'll find the link between bmw electronics is that when the e32 750il, it was claimed that the car had more computing power than the apollo missions

if you want to wave the bmw/e30 flag with some any creditability get your "pub bragging" facts right

and yes, cars have been designed in a way to stop joe average with his spanner ******* about with them. they have also been designed to be more comfortable refined , safer, economical, more powerful & easy to recycle. saying that e30's recycle them selves and turn into a pile of rust which can be swept away

e30's are great cars, there is no doubt about it however some of the members here need to take of their rose tinted specs

there are better cars especially for use as a daily turd

Fair point(s) -

I don't think for one second anyone in their right mind would try to argue that an E30 is the best all round run around, a true classic, priceless etc etc ... E30 owners buy e30s I think, purely for the way they look. NO OTHER car looks like an e30 not even close.

Cars will drive better, be more reliable, cost less to maintain but they just don't look the same. If you got a 'thing' for e30's I think common sense or reason just does not come in to the equation.

i think it might depend on where in the country you are as well. i remember my mate went up to Telford on weekend and he went to a cruise with one of his mates and he said his J-plate golf was the oldest car there by a good 10-12 years. They all had 2-3 year old cars. Yet down here, thats not exactly old.

So people laugh at you for driving a car that does not lose money every day, which if it gets scratch is annoying but not the end of the world, an idiot could fix everything on it, and cost you penuts to run...................wounder if his car is on finance??

I would far prefere to pay my morgage off provide a good up bringing for my son and wife.

on the other note D556 GYE..... my E30 when it was UK plates was D816 GYE, small world

Must admit as i bounce around in a e39, i cant comment but i never understood the mentality in people who critises others who choose to drive older cars and spend there money in other locations. and come to the point that most new cars are either on HP or Lease Hire

Loving the car on the left

Just read the thread properly on the E30 v E36 debate people mentioned:

In my opinion:
E30 looks nicer far nicer
E30 has a far nicer well designed interior
E30 i like it because i want to learn how to control oversteer and learn about car control
E30 my old man had one so i like it and i always liked it as a kid - i remember drawing the interior of a BMW E30 3 Series in primary school in the 1988- 1990.

E36 should be a better handling car - i think because of the Z-Axle which means it is less likely to go sideways and it has a longer wheelbase so more stable
i never driven a E36 but i read they are quite similar to E46s in terms of driving
i hate the interior when it was launched but it has grown on me a little and i do not like the looks
As mentioned E36 probably a better car to use everyday though i think if you can afford to buy a E36 you might as well go for the E46 which is probably far better
E36s are bland in my opinion though

id say england in general has more older cars in nicer condition, scotland has some of the worst roads in europe so cars rust way quicker up here which is a shame. it also rains 364 days a year. we usually get one day of sun.

as for the guy with the e39 how are those? i almost bought one for the same price as my e30 except the e39 was absolutely immaculate and maybe i should have taken it.

If you live on the west coast maybe. Aberdeenshire is one of the sunniest and driest places in the whole country.

The reason cars rust is because we have longer winters and use half of the worlds supply of grit every year. It wouldn't happen nearly as quickly if people cleaned their cars properly and used winter tyres.

E36s look scared, your E30 looks angry, definately more intimidating in a rear view mirror!

Agree on not liking gadgets, I love my poverty spec E30, analogue clock, manual roof, no aerial, blanking plate where the stereo should be...maybe not that.
I also hate the fact that my E21 has electric mirrors, but like it for having no suroof

My Alpina always got nice comments round where I lived. One neighbour even use to look forward to hearing me drive past everyday as he adored the noise it made.

Most people's I have ever chatted to over the years have found memories of the e30. Was always a car that got a conversation going in car parks or the petrol station.

I've only ever had problems with some of the clueless tree hungers round Oxford. At my main campus I had some idiot have a go at my driving such a thirsty car , and I should get a hybrid. I was going to point out he had got it very wrong , but scumbags like Prius drivers ain't worth my abuse. Even the sodding mayor has one as her official car ( stupid green party ).

To the orginal poster , he'll lose more than your car costs to buy and run for the amount of money he will lose on his new car. Tell him that and he might stop laughing then.

well unfortunately i didnt own my car when it was road worthy, so it wasnt my responsibility to make sure it was cleaned and maintained in the winter so i bought a sleeper, not in the performance sense in the oh my god why the fuck did i buy this bucket of shit sense.

I always liked and admired high-specification E30s in the past. However, i can see the appeal of low-specification E30s in mainly the no-frills back to basics driving. As a plus helps save a little mass.

I would have thought all the adults around in the 1980s would be getting a hard on or something every time a BMW E30 3 Series comes past reminancing the time........oh yes i remember the last time I saw a E30 325i being gunned / cor blimey aint seen one of those in years!
