Are e30's shite?
Moderator: martauto
I actually agree with some of the OPs comments lol
Having said that, they are a classic and some of them do look good but they are owned by too many dick heads and rude boys which ruin the image

Looks pretty nice to mebeema_boy wrote:E36s arent bad when done up properly or if you get an M3 but standard stylings are not good.
I can see why some would like them more than an E46 and obviously each to their own opinion. However this argument is about the E30 which i think most would agree is the dogs Bollox of 3 series for all round greatness

I actually really like the E36 shape - one of the nicest 3 series shapes there is and can be made to look lovely with the right mods. They also have better engines in them.
Saying that E30s are classics in my eyes and im sure you can get them insured on classic policies nowadays

I currently have my e30 and an e36, as well as the ol'dears e46 cab.
I drove the e36 for a week and while it was lovely and nice to drive I just wasn't happy behind the wheel of it because it just didn't do it for me.
When I walk up to the front of my e30 in a carpark I can't help but grin when I see it. I'm sure I'll grin even more after the conversion.

The only E36 I would like to have would be a silver 328i convertible with a hardtop and the M-tec kit and M3 alloys.
Blitz that looks like a fine example but the stylings just dont do it for me, i would have to add the M kit to it or something

This is FACT. An e36 is a fantastic daily and is only ruined by the birmingham/ counsil massive.Kos wrote:beema_boy,

jonb wrote:Its just all this mistaken belief that the person in the 2011 m3 is looking at your and thinking that its great and a classic etc.
I think most BMW E92 M3 owners and 2011 M3 owners will be tending to think your driving an e30 because you cannot afford anything better unless they have BMW in their blood and recognise it is because there are alot of qualities you appreciate about the BMW E30 models: handling, styling, beautiful cockpit, mass, noise etc.
Compared to modern cars they leave alot of to desired in certain aspects such as brakes; interior specification, safety features such as airbags.
As for someone mentioned earlier about looking at high performance vehicles...........well i DO look twice at high spec vehicles esp the BMW M such as E46 M3s, E39 M5s, E60 M5s, E83 M6s, 1M Coupe etc though not as much as when i was younger.
As for Ferraris, Porsches, Aston Martins, Bugattis, when the 360 came out and back in the day the 355, 550M, 575M, 993 Turbos i used to look at them. Nowdays if i see a 997, vantage, db9 yeah i will have a look but i wont get excited as i used to lol though i still love it when they get driven loud/fast.
I see new porsches all the time as i am not far from a porsche place so it is not a big deal for me anymore. A fair few people have astons so that aint a big deal either except lol if i see a vanquish driven in anger which i had the pleasure of once from work beautiful hearing the crackle as changing gear.
The older classic cars do it for me well just to see a nicely presented one takes you back even a mk1 escort/astra. However, i appreciate the newer high performance cars for their engineering/technology/aerodynamics/style.
I can honestly say that I don't give a toss about modern performance cars such as Porsches, Aston Martins etc etc etc. They have all whored themselves to make more money and ruined the brands.
It's not a money thing either - a lot of Ferraris that do it for me (250GT Lusso, Daytona Coupe, 288GTO, F40 and 500 Superfast) cost more than new ones. It just so happens that my fave, the Boxer, costs less than the cheapest new Ferrari (whatever that is) and it's a proper old school hero chariot - you would need to change your name to Carlos and grow some impressive sideburns to do the car justice.
Similarly Aston Martins. I don't do the old DB5 stuff or the Council Estate DB7, but the seventies V8's are where it's at for real old school style - that styling and a f*ck-the-ozone-layer V8.
If you just want to go extremely fast, a well tweaked 10 year old Skyline should do the trick and they're not 100 grand.

I used to work in B n R BMW specialists so i have driven E36s in varying degrees from mint m3s to wrecked 316 chavmobiles. As a day to day i would have one as a cheap run around or drift/track car only but they are just bland otherwise. dont wanna drag this out so i wont say anymore i just want you to know my opinion is based on experience not speculationoldroydsr4 wrote:This is FACT. X5 V8 for thrills, CRV for chills, Range Rover P38 V8 for sooooo much aggravation...
I agree with that andy. But the skyline along with all those other jap cars has a terrible image. Fantastic engines though...Andyboy wrote:I can honestly say that I don't give a toss about modern performance cars such as Porsches, Aston Martins etc etc etc. They have all whored themselves to make more money and ruined the brands.

My old man used to have a BMW E30 320i B reg B599 YHV i think the reg was and it was scrapped circa 1999/2000 i believe. It had check control/digit clock/manual and a chequered cloth interior with (i do not know what the precisely colour is) i think beige/very light yellow or possibly brown type cloth. I can remember the smell even now and trust me it smelt nice real nice.Jesus325iTouring wrote:Mine smells of sour milk at the moment after I left a carton in the boot which leaked green liquid outbeema_boy wrote:

My E30 on the otherhand fucking stinks......well that is a little harsh just does not have the same smell. It has a Opie Oils air freshner in it and i normally dont like these type of things. Then against it is over 20 years old and been through over 10 owners.
I doubt most E30s now smell as or close to when they were new.
My E46 has a similar smell to when it was new though it is a bit faint now though you can distinguish it when you come from a E30. Though sometimes if no air-conditioning is on and temperature is high there is a funny smell from interior possibly something caught somewhere.
my e30 reeked until i pulled all the carpet out. smells nice now, well one of them does anyway. the carpet weighed about half the car... it was wet through and had a nice essence of unwashed football shorts which i doubt lynx are going to add to their range of underarm sprays

What a stupid OP. Are Model T Fords "shite"? Of course they are if all you care about is speed and comfort in comparison to current equivalents. By that reasoning, also "shite" are E-Types, Minis, Beetles (to be fair, they ARE shite), Capris, Morgans, Lancaster bombers, Spitfire fighters, etc. etc.
I love the look of an E30, from a 316 to an M3; my 2009 Vauxhall daily is 'better' at getting from A to B economically and comfortably, but I sure don't smile when I drive it.
OP: you're worse than me or RR, at least we add a bit of guile and thought to our drunken provocations. You sir, are a mere t*t with NO SOUL!!!

Two headblenders, couple of bags of MC Hammer, 5 litres of FFF, a 48ft bastard, a box of jumped-up custard and some soggy chimps
I reckoon it could be the plastics used or some other interior material.
Meby they had asbestos linings or something lol
Its a common smell though, from what i remember every other E30 ive been in smelt the same

a well sorted e36 is not bland, and m52 and s5x engines are very very good, that why they find them selves into e30's along with e36 racks
a nice e30 has retro appeal but nice e30's are few and far between, the same applies to e36's
