I had a recent argument with a garage. Sent a letter to the MD explaining the situation and all was sorted FOC.

Can't beat a good letter, works every time, no matter what the situation.

you don't need proof, a verbal agreement is legally binding, so you paid him cash to do a job, if he messed up your verbal agreement is legally binding and in these cases its actually down to the garage to prove they did not complete the work and prove they did not cause the damage. If they can't (which they can't) they you automatically win in small claims court.

Just give him the option- replace at their cost or you will 1. Contact Trading Standards, 2. Contact the local Press. 3. Issue legal proceedings against him (stating the above info) and its job done.

If he doesn't and you go to court you claim for the cost to have the work carried out, compensation that its happened, plus your costs of taking him to court. he knows he will loose so will sort it pretty quickly.

shame it has come to this allot of unneeded stress for you over a relatively small job.
hope you get it sorted in the end and find a new garage to do your work in the future.

Write a letter to him and send it recorded delivery stating that you want the costs fully reimbursed for the new parts.
State you want a response within 7 working days or you will go to the smalls claims court.
Either that or go round with 10 mates. :D

well i have spoken to a consumer line, they gave me the exact same advice as m8782538 and Loony, they told me to give him a letter, and if no response small claims which i should win,

the only pains in the ass is

I heard that Bilstein had just got rid of there UK distributor and they were setting up their own but its taking time.

I've heard Motorsport World can still get most Bilsteins as they get them from the German distributor

ecp told me that they have no indication as to when bilstein will be able to get b6s again

my local motor factors told me he spoke directly to bilstein and the same story, he told me that he believed they were close to going broke

Trouble getting hold of Bilstein products? Suppliers keeping on announcing delays?

We don't ! - 99% of Bilstein products in stock and shipped directly from Germany to our UK customers.

Background
Bilstein and the UK importer parted company a couple of weeks ago and unfortunately Bilstein didn't have a decent contingency plan in place. They are beginning to stock a warehouse now but it will be weeks until Bilstein UK becomes fully functional. We, however, were already dealing with a German distributor for some other brands and that has gone well, so we asked if they could supply Bilstein too and they can. Deliveries of all stock items 2-3 days.

Click here to view the most comprehensive listings of Bilstein products in the UK in our online shop.
