I doubt it.

Nice Tech 1's are already virtually non existent so why are they not worth more now?
+1

IMO the demand for Tech2 stuff is due to the wow factor that happened when the Tech2 sport was first released, a very different looking E30. It was that successful they even planted the ghastly spoilers onto the back of poor old chromies to try and shoe them out the showrooms :(
Its still happening today, a Tech2 kitted E30 in general sells for more than a standard bodied car purely for the way it looks and because of this it is appreciated more by ignorant buyers regardless of how good or bad it is, a sport is the cream of the crop in this department, hence the bumped up price tag and the birmingham spec bodgery/bullshit/V5 frauds

Until you educate the masses (good luck with that) a proper Tech 1 will never be appreciated by the Tech2 kit crew bruvs that are paying top whack for their scrap :)

Just for the record, despite me owning a tech 2 sport, i actually like both of them equally and have no bias towards one or the other.

I will argue the shite that people spout about them though!

You'll never educate the masses and you've hit various nails on the head there. In my eyes the Tech 2 Sports were created by BMW to appeal to the mass market. It was the beginning or premium car manufacturers choosing style over substance. Essentially both Tech 1 and Tech 2 Sports are the same car underneath, they're both great cars...but that wasn't enough in the late 80s and early 90s. There needed to be more of a mass appeal. *It was no longer ok to make an amazing product you could sell exclusively purely for the sake of making something truly special.

Tech 2's were, in my opinion, designed, as you've rightly stated, to sell more Sports for BMW. They had a mass appeal and they have retained that mass appeal.

A car can become a classic for any number of reasons there are those who would claim the MINI, the 2CV, the Beetle, the Golf GTi, the Audi Quattro, the E30 M3, the Lotus Carlton, the Sapphire Cosworth (and the list could go on forever) are all classics but I'd imagine the reason for them being so would differ from person to person.

Tech 2's appeal to the masses today as they did back in the late 80s/early 90s and as a result they sell for more money.

I had a tech 1 and tech 2 at the same time
Always got better comments about the tech 2 when i had them both on the drive together
Most people thought the tech 1 was a normal 325 and the tech 2 was the sport
Most prefer the look of the tech 2 as well , Lower rear arches as well so sat better in my eyes
If i had to have another it would be a tech 2 again
It is mainly the kit as it suits the car so well :D

Agreed

The tech 2 looks more sportier and tech 1 looks more subtle. The sharper straight lines of the the tech 2 kit make it look like perfect almost toy like and I think thats what makes them more appealing

Because the E30 is not yet a full bore "classic".

That's my feeling/ opinion on it anyway.

The original breed will always become more sought after in the long run I reckon.
Indeedy.

The originals almost always overtake the later cars - it happened with 3.8 and 4.2 E Types, GRP 308GTB's and the later metal cars and it will eventually happen to these.
The second gen Sports are worth more because there are more of them and better known. But they aren't as sharp to drive as the original and the dubious UPVC cladding on the side is of debatable value apart from hiding Titanic style body rot.

I can also remember a time (a long time ago though) when a Mark 1 Escort Mexico was a £1500 car and a Mark 2 RS2000 was worth twice as much. Not any more.

If you were to advertise a genuinely superb Sport 1 for 6 grand, you'd sell it. It would have to be a properly mint original with low miles, lots of bills and extras like leather, but you'd find a victim. However, there are probably less than five such examples left and that's why you don't see them selling for 6 grand too often.

imo, tech 1s are more rare compared to tech 2s because they dont look as aggresive in terms of the body kit which im guessing is preffered by the masses hence alot of them dieing out/scrapped etc. Im looking out for a tech 2 around the 4k mark to park next to my tech 1 but love models equally. Tech 1 imo looks more vintage and classic compared to tech 2 because so many chavs have made tech 2s look like complete Council joke bangers compared to the more retro looking tech 1.
