Oil change, filter and capacity?

First time i've been on here in a while... sad to see all the stolen e30/parts stickys at the top of the forum.... anyway as per title really can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere.

servicing the m42 today. guessing im using part synthetic 10-40 castrol oil (already have 4 litres anyway)

just need to know howmuch it needs and what filter to use... thanks in advance.

4.5 litres with filter change, 4.25 litre without - the largest capacity of any E30.
What filter?? One with E30 M42 or 318iS written on the box.

got genuine bmw filter for a tenner off ebay. thanks for the capacity.

When I changed my sump, it took a whole 5lts to get to the max mark!!! Didn't check if the container was up to the 5lt mark first but it was a new sealed one.
