i have had the bad news of getting my car back from essex the other day from storage.

i left a pair of sport seats in the darker cloth(not hounds) with black sides and in MINT condition. they were retrimmed by bmw ages ago but i had left them in the attic for my track car.
i think one had the fire extingisher holder too . from an m3 seat.

plus brush silver steel momo jet 3 wheel and boss. but the centre badge did not have momo in it but something else like a egale or bird if i am right . but a black button basicly.

now these set me back a fair amount when i bought them and some other things went missing but those wont be easy trackable

i am after the worthless scum that stole them and hope to not get them back as much but get the thief dealt with by he law.

any clues give me a shout.

storage where ? surely its down to the storage company ?, but really makes sense if leaving in storage somewhere away from you, to remove valuable/rare trinkets and not leave anything in the car

well storage in the sence that it was being worked on . and was supose to have its engine out and suspention on then brought home.
the fact is . there gone . how is ovious. but who is the question.

its the guy who was doing the work that left it in that way , but because it was where it was doesnt mean its ok to unbolt seats and steering wheels does it.

if you left you front door open it wouldnt be ok to raid your house.

but i am sure you would want to know who did it.

The law of bailee applies here and the person who was left in charge of your vehicle has responsibility to take reasonable steps to prevent theft etc.

OK, if their unit got broken into and stuff pinched along with your stuff, then nothing you can do about it. But if through their own carelessness and therefore negligence, they left your property in a state where it was vulnerable to theft etc, they are liable for the loss.

Defo the person who was working on your car has a duty of care to make sure the vehicle is secure and to take reasonable care of it.

Since this has not happened, and provided you can prove these items were in the car, either on paper, photo, or his own admission, you can claim off him (or if he prefers, his insurer) for the replacement cost of the items.

I have done it in the past, had an accident, garage left the car outside on the street, unlocked and without the alarm set, cost them £2800.00. Tools Taken, Oakley sunglasses, Head Unit (very very good one) Speakers, In car handsfree kit, CD's, everything taken. They gave me a cheque since their insurance premiums would have skyrocketted if they went down that route.

more the reason it mnight be him then

to be honest money or no money its down to him and him only, he was working on your car, bits have gone missing

if it were me , hed have 2 choices- give me the cash/items of value i could sell to get my cash back, ie hel have tools/a watch/gold, anything

i wouldnt have it end of story, like the last post there- insurers if need be, if hes a supposed penniless pikey who shows no care or will to help and sort you out, then hes more likley to have cashed in your bits and sold them, hes mugging you off- you should be treating this like "theyve stole from him not you" , its down to him to sort you out, then call the police/find them himself

call the police, send them round there

i think i know the guy you mean but its not no . i do know him and hes quite a good friend of mine he is as honest as they come.

this guy that was doing mine was ment to be doing it over the shristmas period when it was really cold. so i gave slack as i wouldnt want to be working in that condition plus i was in no rush .
but i guess i should have never trusted anyone to work on my car .
i had a vw golf go missing in the same sort of senario.
you would think i would of learnt.

but there no point chasing when people dont have any money to repay you .

the first guy though that lost my golf is now in the btcc touring car teams and is earning . i need to figure out if i can collar him for the value of my golf now as i know hes got money .

If the guy is a friend he would either replace the items or give you their replacement value, i know i would if i was in his situation and the items were genuinely stolen (But then again i would make sure the was safe and secure so it wouldn't happen in the first place)

You need to call the police regardless, so there is a record of it, yes they will question him about it but it shouldn't be a problem if he has nothing to hide.

to be hbonest, yolu sound like a soft touch and let yourself get mugged and fobbed off, with things like "a whole car"

unreal, its no wonder it happened again.

ffs . just keep a eye out is all i am asking. i dont need a "you should have done this" and a "your a soft touch"

i trusted the car to sombody i knew and worked with in the past and the car was in a lock up when i last left it . what he did after that was just dumb. and they were not as if they were resting out side the car they had to unbolt the things in a secure compound.

i was hoping i would get a bite from sombody that might have just bought some seats similar and get a lead off it.

the amount of friends i have i cant keep tabs on everything that happens around me and i cant do everything myself.

anyone here been stiffed by a garage.? or builder? or stolen from . are you a soft touch too.

plus i could tell him he owes me . it and take it to a small claims court and then still get nothing back .

So let's put a proper spin on this.:)

Post up some photos if you can of what we should be looking out for. If you cant do that, use photos off the web. Clearly list what is missing in the first post. I'll get this stocked and see where we are in a month.
