That was a great read.

How do we calculate those values in today's money?
Is it just (inflation of each year) * (inflation of each year +1) etc?

I think the interesting cost is for what I assume to be the Maplight Mirror. It's about the only thing that hasn't depreciated from original price :?

324 quid for an OBC is mental. It's just a calculator (that's always wrong)...

I have a price list for september '89 for the whole model range including prices for all options.

I also have an Alpina price list for '88.

I worked out that with all the optional extras my sport has and i have fitted, i would have cost nearly £29000! 8O

I've got some price lists + bills for 1985. I know mine cost a fair old whack back then. Will have to fish them out and post them.

Mine started out in 1988 as mother's shopping trolley. I've still got the original invoice somewhere and she paid around £17,400 iirc, which I suppose was a fair old chunk back then.
Some Of The Following Options vary with model...
Recaro Sports Seats (Front only) Anthracite cloth only - £468.00
If only I could get hold of a decent set of these

In 1989 the 325i in base form sold at $71 500 in Australia. I've worked out that with the options that mine was ordered with it came in at around $80 000. A hell of a lot of money back then. The 318iS listed at around $41 000 for the 1990 model year.

Is a good read this, the thing that got me was the small price difference between the 325i SE 2 door (£17,385) and the 325i Sport (£17,495) so a £110 bought hell of a lot extra on the sport back in the day 8O

BMW have some what changed their pricing strategy today I guess your looking at at least 2K extra to get form the SE to the Sport.

IIRC the iS came with steels as standard, any with alloys were optioned up mostly by the dealers for sales purposes

When I was researching mine for this article (http://sticksout.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html), I came across the 1989 price listings and worked with some professional banking software to calculate inflation.

17,000 GBP in 1989 is nearly 40,000 now. But you can get a clean touring for 800 quid. So in 21 years, an e30 has lost 98% of its value...
