I have a track car, my E30 only gets used on the track,
I am currently using a manual E30 steering rack but its turning is way to long,
could anyone help me by telling me what I need to go to a E36 steering rack, I wont be using power steering, so i guess its just a case of fitting new rack and steering link?
Thanks,
Tim
How to convert manual E30 rack to E36 rack?

How many turns lock to lock is the E36 M3 rack? I have the Z3 rack which is 2.9. Versus the standard rack, which is Avogadro's number lock to lock (well, 4.1).
Apparently the Z3M is 2.5... which I'd prefer but they're rarer.
In any case, I'm happy with mine and you simply have to bend the pipes a bit to fit it.

Thanks for reply,
Excuse my ignorance but what are the U-Js? Are they Tie rod ends?
And the Custom Spline if for where?

Sorry i understand what you mean now! I saw this thread:

Certainly looks the easiest way to do conversion.
