fuel prices
Moderator: martauto
We need to stop wasting £46 million a DAY to stay in the EU, and then the people who are SUPPOSED to run this country can do what they're paid for and do some work for once.
Currently slumming it in an E46 Touring
The people chose to vote for a Conservative Government that were too scared of their own shadows to do anything about it.
Remember Cameron saying a year before the elections that he'd give us a referendum on the EU, then turned round a few weeks later and said he wouldn't?

I know, your right there pal... seems ironic doesn't it that we won WW2 only to be told what to do by Brussels anyway...Gortour wrote:You get them off their fat arses then...
and as far as the students go, yes they were noticed, but the b'stards in Government still passed their price increases.
And our fuel prices are set by the fatcats in Brussels, not Westminster, thanks to the Government handing everything your forefathers fought for in WWs 1 and 2 over anyway.
All that blood split to be signed away by the flick of a pen...

120p / litre,
3.4ltrs, 20mpg, I dont give a toss! aslong as I am doing my bit to waste fuel and kill the planet it's worth it
My theory is, if you are concerned about how much fuel costs, don't drive the car, simples?!

Always a fun thread this, I'm lucky because I have never had to drive for work and wouldn't really want to, so maybe my opinion reflected by this.
All the comments "I remember when petrol cost 7p...." yes it was cheaper, but you also didn't earn as much money as you probably do now - it's know as inflation. It's actually cheaper to run a car now in relative terms than it was in the 1970's.
Also in terms of average wages, fuel prices in the UK are significantly lower than other countries. People can afford to drive their cars around in the UK- If they didn't people would walk, catch the bus or cycle. Even in much of Europe people still walk to get their local paper/bread/milk / get the kids to school in the morning, but in the UK we drive, because we can afford it. (and that's why the local shops closes down).
We all go for pointless drives, just for fun!
Until this really changes no fuel protest will ever take hold, because however much people will complain nobody who has the means to protest really cares that much.
I do however think our current pricing policy is unfair, far to often the cheapest fuel available is in areas where the need is not the highest. Rural areas where the is little quality public transport should have cheaper fuel, where central London and the like should be £2 a liter (perhaps there would be a reduction for business use). Some people (and I recon a fair amount of you guys) have to drive for your living.
And GoTourer really it has very little to do with Europe and the failure of the economy has actually probably kept prices down a bit as oil prices are based upon demand- and there is less demand when the economy is down. It's more to do with people buying Chinese made products which is fueling their economy creating more demand.
If the Government reduced taxes on it, more people would do pointless trips on the road meaning more traffic and less money to spend on new Tarmac.

I only put in the "7.8p" quote because of the "I remember 8xp quotes". 80p was less than 10 years ago.Gwynleym10 wrote:All the comments "I remember when petrol cost 7p...." yes it was cheaper, but you also didn't earn as much money as you probably do now - it's know as inflation. I agree with your last sentence 100%. In the days of the 35p gallon, I coudn't afford to run a car - I only remember the price of fuel because my first job was pump attendant at a local petrol station. IIRC, I was earning less than 35p an hour!

Yea Si I said average wages, mine have gone down too since 2 years ago.... and I certainly couldn't afford a car of any type at the moment.
I used to put £1 a week into my Honda C90, and did about 10 miles each way to work, plus running about in the evening... lol
I'm sure they only changed fuel prices to litres to confuse us so we didn't realise how much we were paying...
