finaly dropped 40mm
Moderator: martauto
I took my e30 into work today and lowered it 40mm, but its never that simple, i had to buy 2 new wishbones costing £103!! then the antiroll bar swing support bracket snapped
ive orderd a new one from bmw and will arrive tomorrow, drives a little bit better but dont really notice a big change in the driving

What springs did you fit? I lowered my first E30, a 1984 320i using I think Jamex ones, and it just cornered a little flatter with less roll, but it's all about the stance!

were the ball joints goosed on the control arms ?
did you check your dampers ? -40mm is about right before you start eating sumps.

yeah they was goosed, well after i finished them off with the balljoint splitter they was
ive used Gmax, it sits a little lower but i wanted lower than that but yes the worry was the sump, 40mm is right for a e30

Yes, you don't want to go any lower than that on E30s, else the rear tyres wear quickly and the handling is adversely affected.

Sounds like you probably need new dampers also. Bilsteins are good on these, if you can afford them.

lower springs only drop the height, to get the best from them you may need shorter, uprated shock's to get closer to the driving feeling your looking fore30-ian wrote:how can i make it more stiffer to drive? im not 100% happy with it, i know i need to put a new antiroll bar swing support bracket on as its left loose but will be doing that in the morning, it just feels soft around corners, i cant describe it but it, just feels standard to me

my advice, sort yourself out with some new dampers (bilstein b4s will work fine with 40mm drop and not too expensive from ECP) and stiffen your drive the hartge way with some hefty ARBs, they make a massive differencee30-ian wrote:how can i make it more stiffer to drive? im not 100% happy with it, i know i need to put a new antiroll bar swing support bracket on as its left loose but will be doing that in the morning, it just feels soft around corners, i cant describe it but it, just feels standard to me

It also depends on what E30 you have. If it's a 4 cylinder or a 320i, it's worth adding a pair of 325i Sport anti roll bars. You'll get a pair for 50 quid.
Bilstein B4's work well with a 30mm drop, 40 should be okay but add a pair of new E36 Coupe front bump stops.

+1. My 320i didnt even have a rear ARB on. How thick are sport ARBs?Andyboy wrote:It also depends on what E30 you have. If it's a 4 cylinder or a 320i, it's worth adding a pair of 325i Sport anti roll bars. You'll get a pair for 50 quid.

Its a 325i 1988
ive orderd some Bilstein shocks, should be with me friday, after a few friends comments on how it now looks im sort of happy with it, gives it more of an aggressive look, i just need to get the vauxhall 17inch wheels off as they sit in far to much and go for a bmw fitment but that will be after christmas now unless a nice swap comes up
I've been really pleased with my Bilsteins since I've had them on my personal e30. The change in handleing was enormous from the tired out non-BMW units the previous owner had installed at some point.
Less body roll cornering and hardly any perceptble dip of the nose when you dive on the brakes coming to a stop! Top kit!
