Being new to e30s (early 325) ive not experimented yet - int he past always found certain cars respond better to super unleaded / additives etc whereas others its a waste of time - so whats everyone run and why? :D

95, anything else on a stock e30 is a waste of time,

why? no closed loop fuelling or ignition timing of any kind.

Standard unleaded... No point in using anything else... It does the job.

The m20 is a very old design of engine and lacks a knock sensor to adjust to the higher octaine. All modern fuels are so much better than what these engines were designed to run on , it is like having caviar after you been raised to eat bread and water.

Another thing to note is things like RedX and lead additives do nothing to help the car. So just put your normal unleaded in and enjoy. Some claim they get a better performance and mpg return but I for one think if there are any gains it's not worth the extra money.

Good stuff - just wondering! To be honest most cars I've had using super hasn't made any difference apart from when you start tuning. I didn't know whether these would adjust or not so thats a definate no to trying it!

just used redex once to 'cleanse' the system

did make a difference, but no more than the speed increase you get by cleaning and polishing the car....!

i've tried nearly all the higher octane fuels, including tesco's 99, and not found much difference or improvement, all except one, bp ultimate.
the engine feels so much more lively. so much so, that i wont put anything else in it anymore 8)

95 for me too If it really is anywhere near that high, All this higher octane stuff is a rip off. For a start they only advertise the ron number's where it's the mon numbers that count. If any of you ever get the chance to use or invest in some racing fuel then you will feel a difference, although you may start to get peived with what the pumps are telling you. I stick to BP out of habbit but I don't belive it's any different to others.

Morrisons or Asda 95 RON - they seem to be locked in a permanent price war :)

LPG for me too :D

I keep some 95 ron fire water in the tank for very cold mornings and the occasional 'sport mode' moment and every now and then it gets a shot of redex as the fuel spends it's time circulating the system and supposedly petrol injectors can sometime gum up if rarely used... probably does nothing though :) I only use £5 worth of petrol a month...

When on track, i use high octane stuff (whatever i find on the way there) simply because i have higher compression than standard and have no idea if it's getting close to detonation with my off the shelf speedtouch chip. an extra tenner in fuel on a track day seems reasonable insurance to me as it will spend 80% of the time at full throttle, near the rev limiter.

I tend to use Tesco 95 seeing as there are 3 Tesco garages within a 2 mile radius of my house, however, I notice I can get a ship load more in if i fill up at morrisons? :? like maybe an extra 5-10 litres...

If the general public were not so lazy and cared more about their money everybody would fill up at the cheapest station available on their route which would drive down petrol prices.
Its quite simple really, same as the general public....

If only there was enough LPG round here for that to work. It's generally 10-15p more than the motorway services at my local BP, the second closest place is about 9p cheaper but it's 15-20 miles away so not worth it with my puny 38L tank :( They have no competition so charge more than anyone else i've ever seen! still 2/3 the price of petrol though :)

The cheapest crap I can find, your E30 does not care what fuel it drinks anyone thinking that BP ultimate, optimax etc does anything for performance is dreaming, the only thing your doing is lining some already very rich oil companies pockets.
