Trying to insure this 318i I got to replace my 320 chromie so I can work on it over the winter...

Cheapest quote I got for the 318 is £547

The same company will insure my Chromie for £375

I just dont understand where they get these figures from.

I did a quote for a facelift 320 as well as I thought perhaps it has something to do with the age, £414...

My current insurance have bumped up my chromie insurance from £360 a year to £410... And to insure the 318, they said £638...

If I didnt need the 318 on the road at the end of the month I would sell it and get another 320i... Just dont think I will have time to do it all.:(

(Chromie insurance runs out at the end of the month)

No real answer or reply to this, just wanted to express how I felt... And I feel like im being mugged off.

Completely with you on this. Insurance is an absolute joke, they seem to pull numbers out the sky, and as long as they all pull the same ridiculous numbers out, you have no choice but to pay it!

Guys, please dont shoot the messenger but insurance rates have seen a big hike this year, some information here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-11516195

I'd encourage you to give my company a call for a comparison against your renewal prices if you haven't already, tel: 0208 3645500.

might also have something to do with percentages ? ie a lot more 318 on the road and in accidents than the chromie, which means statisticly your more likley to prang it ? justa thought

Tried you guys the other day...

Not to knock you but the best the fella could do was £2000+ on the 318. :?

@ Polsta

Your probably right... I suspose they are more used by 'idiots' than the chromies are too... Just gonna just have to pay the premium then when I switch it in 6 months back to trhe chromie, it should be paid in full already. In theory!

Do you have Classic insurance in the UK?
I have comprehensive insurance on my chromie at the value of $10K (about 6000 gbp) and it cost me less than $500 a year (about 300 gbp). My 2002 is half that cost (even though value is $7500 but it is on classic rego).
The company I use here specialises in Classics and their rates reflect the way owners treat their cars.
Worth pursuing or talk to a broker

they just make it up.
my motorbike insurance was due and I noticed the broker was recommending insurance through Aviva, who I've got two other vehicles with directly - so it must be cheaper for me to go to Aviva myself?
No. Aviva, with worse terms, quoted me 50 percent more than the broker did.

A few years ago I was looking for quotes on a Capri. One company quoted roughly 50% more for a 2.0s than a 2.8i - 'because it's a sport'.

Just ring around and make the most of the random nature of it all - you'll get a decent quote somewhere!

A point to remember is it can often work out cheaper if you personally visit a local
brokers, rather than going online.
It,s all very random.

ChrisE30sport, try Chaucer or Performance Direct.
My L Reg 316i Touring is on a Classic Policy, £ 172 fully comp.
You may need access to another car though.
Have you tried Sky on here ?
