a while ago, i returned to my car to discover some ar5e had dented my car with presumably their door.............was well peeved, but got over it, life goes on. one zoner recommended paintles dent removal, so i took his (her?) advice and got in the experts.

the patient...

....the doctor!

hard at work.

ian from dent wizard came and stripped the door card and seat base (after admiring the car and saying what a joy it was to work on these older bmws as thet are so easy to work with/strip out)

ian used a black line on a white piece of acrylic to reflect from his point of view where the dent was so he could see a from the reflection where the line was not smooth that there was still a deflection in the bodywork. he pushed out the dent using specialised tools and was much more work than simply pushing out the dink. he was huffing and puffing away for a good hour to get the dent out.

the results...almost completely gone!!

i am extremely satisfied and amazed at what can be done. the cost was £60=vat and considering what a bodyshop would charge to sort out a dent and the inevitable mismatch in paint, it was money well spent.

now if anyone dents my car again, i'll cut their b0ll0x off! (i'm not mad anymore really)

free plug: ian was a friendly chap with an excellent and efficient service and came round to my house to fix the repair. (he also did a little freebie and improved a dent on my front arch when i enquired about having it done. i would highly recommend him, he is from and works around the swindon area but happily came to oxford to do the repair.

edited...good spot! serves me right for putting up high res pics

it's invisible unless you're looking for it tbh so cant really see much when you look down the side....and there are a few other "wobbles" on the car but the dent was really obvious from a mile off...

Point is,for less than £100 you have got a decent enough result.

Bet your local bodyman sucked his teeth and suggested he lighten your wallet to nearer £200,'I'll have to re-paint the whole wing, and these old cars are a bugger to match'........

PDR takes 95% of the dent out, and is very very acceptable, well worth the money..

Incorrect..... When you use a good PDR guy PDR takes 100% of the dent out... For the record this is what I do professionally and there is absolutely no reason at all a easy little dent like that can not be done 100%.

The guys reflector board is the reason he is no good at it..

i agree A GOOD MAN TAKES 100% OUT AND YOU CANT EVEN NOTICE EVER im a panel beater/painter by trade and seen some good lads very good lads and some shockers that blag their way through it.
to be honest if pukar is happy with his job then fair enough, but i agree it can be seen quite easily,to an untrained eye its a good job and customer satisfaction is what its all about

Good point if he is Happy that all that matters..

Just annoys me when people take my trade and do it half assed.. Makes us all look incompetent, people think that they can only get it 95%..

Looks great, you're hired!

Just out of interest, what would a dent like that cost to remove?

I really wish I called one of these guys when the soarer got a big dent in the rear 1/4 panel, instead of trying my own dent removal with a ball hammer from inside the boot :)

I was thinking to myself, that board has a rough paint sprayed line through it, surely a straight line would be better?

thanks for all the input chaps...

i am happy with the job, as said before compared to a repair/spray, it was a good result...but, i did not think that the dent could be removed 100%, hence the write up and praise....m_jermyn, if you could've sorted it out, then i would've been more than happy...........but sadly you live in aus. if i was to ask someone to go round the car and find a spot that has been repaired without any before pics, then i would really be amazed if they got the right spot and not found another...straight lines like bricks are gonna show up things more i suppose. its not so much that i have an untrained eye, its more that i did not know that 100% removal was possible. your pics of the blue car are quite impressive! to be fair to ian who did the work, he did spend an hour working on the dent, then did a bit extra as a freebie, so overall i dont think he was a bodger or he could have been done in 15 mins after which most of the dent had gone (the dent was not so easy to get out. the dent was in the middle of the panel and leverage was difficult apparently)

as i said before, i love my car and it is in really good nick, but everyones car does have a wobble here and there so i thought that the job was really good. i did ask zoners for recommendations, but did not get one near me so i took a shot. after whats been said, i will definately be more picky in future, but for now, i'm happy. (if anyone is a pdr near oxford....make yourself known now as my wifes audi has a nice dent in the boot)

just a quick comment on above pukar, dent removal people can easily repair dents like that in 15 mins or less, but they dont because if they do and charge you £60/£70 for 15 mins work you`d be quite annoyed i assure you.
what was good to see though was he stripped your car down and did`nt just drill a hole and stick a rod in it,which suggests to me that the guy is from the panel beater/sprayer background hence why its not 100% because hes bought in to a franchise and has not been trained properly.
but as said your happy thats what matters and its better than the dent that was there.

if any body in the south cumbria/ north lancs area needs any paintless dent removal just contact me and i`ll tyr and put you in touch with some highly recomended people

The guy I use is self employed but used to be a trainer for Dent wizard. Gpt bored with training and neve being "in the field" so went alone. He's done a couple of zoners now with good results.

He tells me that the quicker you get to a dent, the easier it is as the steel has a memory. The longer the dents there, the harder it is to remove. He also hates old BMWs due tot he quality of the steel. Much higher and therefore much tougher to work on.

I have no probs with charging that kind of money for that amount of time. I have to travel to and from your house and that comes into the price. However if you bought the car to mevi would stretch it out.

Still cheaper and better then a panel beater so still a bargain

personly think it looks ok and money well spent, thing is...you can maybe see the slightest wobble in reflection opf high res pics with bricks in reflection...in the flesh and looking at it without knowing,is a different story

and not every dent is 100% removable i bet, and would be in the paint thasts been disturbed you could maybe see the slightest bit..if really looking at/for it, but in time youl forget it was even there, and no one eelse will know or see

the guy I use would do that 100% in about 5-10 minutes, If he cannot do it 100% because of a kink or a double skin he will tell you before he starts. he says if he can get to it, he can fix it. I've watched him closely and it is very skillful, pushing it right out then flatting the imperfections back.
It's a shame they aren't all as good.

I've seen youtube vids where they use dryice to contract the surface and pop the dent out.

I've got a few little dents I want sorting out when I have the cash..tho one is in the upright pillar on the back (the one by the rear windscreen) which I think'd be difficult to get out.

I had a high spot on the drivers side rear quarter panel from something in the boot hitting it.

I also had a small dent right on the leading edge of my bonet.

Both on the E30.

Both now gone without a trace!

I was very shocked that the high spot had gone without a trace!

Only cost me £20 but that was trade and the guy was on site to do some other cars.

Wish i took some before pics!
