Thief-proofing BBS centre caps...any suggestions?

Hi all,

I have *finally* got round to buying a set of centre caps for the 15" BBSes on my 325i Touring and they look great

At the same time, I am aware that they must look equally good to any would-be ne'er do well who is feeling light-fingered.

With this in mind, I was wondering if some zoners had any tips on how to "tamper proof" centre caps. I don't want to damage the look of the caps more than i can possibly help it, but at the same time I am keen to protect my investment. Could a grubscrew work to hold them in place? Or some other mechanism?

When are you worried about them? Is it a night time outside yu house or at work? The best thing would be to just take them off when you think they might be nicked...Hassle, but atleast they wont go missing.I wouldnt really recommend drilling into them.

buy a rottweiler and install it in your car...now thats tamper proof

alittle bit of siliaflex will do but not much or you wont get them back off

ive put tiny screws in mine, stops them falling off to . the price to replace these things is stupid really.

Could you do somehing like use a metal plate on the back with a captive nut, and a large washer and bolt on the front behind the badge to clamp the two halves together and stop them unlocking.

It's been a while since I've looked at a cap close up, and the badge would sit slightly further forwards in the 'nut', but in my head at least it should work...

I'm sure the more determined thief would still be able to get them off but it might stop the 2 second twist and grab?

Good dollop of silicon rubber behind them works. Also stops one's with dodgy clips falling off as well.

Where in Bristol are you mate? Like most others I usually take mine off when I leave it parked anywhere

i have never had an issue or thought of this as an issue.
now at nearly 4am I've got to go and take my ones off now or I'll never get to sleep.
why would someone risk the conciquencies of getting caught seems if not for the shame han the retaliation is beyond me.

had a bunch of toe rags nicking loads of cars fuel down a mates road and had my touring done twice. just sat in a neighbours garden for 6 nights and followed them home on a bike.

left it a few weeks then used their cars ill gotten gains to provide a little warmth.

right time to get those caps

Thanks for all the tips guys; I'll look into the silicone rubber option.

I've no idea whether or not cap theft is a problem but it's taken me ages to find a full set and I don't want to lose them if I can possibly help it.

they may not be stolen but they do fall off!

Like your style had the same problem with petrol thieves out side my house , sent my dog out to have a word not seen them since !
