Hello,

I'm on the hunt for an Alpine white II boot without a spoiler for my car, but so far the search is proving unsuccessful.

If I bought another colour one how difficult would it be to get a decent colour match to 20 year old white paint? Someone once tried with the door and it looks pants (want this sorted too!). I know this is a how long is a piece of string question but any ideas of cost?

Thanks.

Is it really as simple/straightforward as just spraying it yourself? I guess you'd need lacquer etc too? Surely the paint would have faded over 20 years?

yes i used clear laquer when doing mine, if your car is in similar condtion to mine then using original paint from the dealers should yeald good results :) , so long as you blast a whole panel that is!

Thanks for that dude,

Did you do any external panels of your car? I looked at the pics of the engine bay, it looks good!

How much coverage does a can give you?

Thanks!

if you are doing something like just the spoiler, and exact match isn't quite so important, as you don't have to worry about loosing the edge of the paint against the existing in the same way. what ever you do, don't use halfords paint- especially white for any car always seems to come out cream from them! believe it or not i've had better matches with metallic colours!

Thanks for that - I'm aiming to attempt the top part of my drivers side door, as it's a much brighter white, and a boot if/when I get one...

Matching Alpine white 2 is a bastard. You will need to take the new bootlid and the old one to the paintshop. They will need to flat and polish the old boot and paint some colour chips to get it close. Cans? The Halfords Alpine White is Alpine white 3 and therefore nothing like right. There are 3 variants on the Halfords 'custon made' cans and they're not much good. Only the BMW cans are something like near enough.
As long as your car hasn't been painted in the past (a tall order), you should get it painted to be pretty close. A boot isn't a bad panel, unlike a door or a wing.
