After reading Mfree's long, long story with his M3, it makes you realise just how many so called top workshops are out there who are very quick to take your money and the get the KY jelly out and fcuk you. I had bare drama's with the Rieger and even with my other convertible.

It was in a paint shop for a year before i got it out. I agreed a price with the owner, then he sold the business and the new owner agreed to do the job for the same money. He then kept the car for months and didn't do nothing on it. In the end i told him not to bother as i was taking the car back. He said fine, but he didn't want it in his garage and was going to have the car pushed out and left in the street as it was no longer his responsibility. I told him in no uncertain terms how he would be kindnapped, kneecaped and then his business burnt to the ground. and he agreed to keep the car locked up for a few days.

I guess the bottom line is be carfeful and dont part with all the money upfront. Pay a deposite and the rest when the work is done and you are happy. I reckon the Rieger has cost me nearly Ԛ£10k in work i've paid for and had to pay someone else to do again cause it was crap the 1st time round. You've been warned peeps.

tell me about it mate, ive still not got my car back from the "specialist" for my engine conversion, were now 15 weeks into a "2-3 week" job, ive visited and id say its 95% complete, he just doesnt seem to want to finish it off, keeps fobbing me off with excuses, and i didnt even pay a penny up front so youd think he'd get it done to get his cash, which is not an insignificant amount( Ԛ£000's). hes done good jobs for me before but this is the last :x

Scary isn't it and builders are worse!

The word trust seems to be lacking in many peoples book of morals it seems now.

I think also the old saying of money is the root of all (or most) evil!

The problem is we all have our talents in different things, that's why we take out cars to these so called professionals. Believe me, if i could do things on my car myself, i would. A friends uncle use to be a chief mechanic for BMW. He won mechanic of the year severa times during his working life and he gets really upset when my friend and i take our BM's to a garage. Just for a test, i took my car to one of those elctronic diagnostic places. These guys were meant to be the best in the business and they gave me a list of things i should let them do immediatly on the car. I took the car and the list back to my friends uncle and he checked everything on the list and laughed his head off, cause all the things they said needed replacing were new on my car and didnt need doing at all, but i guess they look at the car and think "Hmm, he looks like he's got dough so lets finger him", but what they dont realise is that i have to eat beans on toast to run my car :x My friends uncle has said anytime anything goes wrong with either of our cars, he will show us how to fix it, cause he's got a double garage at the back of his garden that he works from, but cause of his age, he cant do any heavy lifting and stuff, but i just dont have the time, so i'm forced to take the car to these rip off merchants. At least for the time being anyway

Except nothing I do is ever up to my standards no matter how hard I try. I guess I can't really expect anyone else work to be either then, except like bootyman said they are the "professionals".
