You can chip a 325tds, which has about 140bhp stock, so that would be pretty interesting and fit straight in. It won't be that great on derv though. Better to go for LPG? Dunno if anyone's got the 330d lump in an E30

I agree with the 330d idea being a cool one. My mate and I were talking about it the other day, would be an awesome mix of old/new!

Jesus! Someone please put a 330d in an E30! My folks have an E46 330d, which I've done 140mph in (granted, I did kill the fuel pump in the process, but no matter!).
Think of the possibilities if that was fitted in a much smaller, lighter E30

I asked someone who knows a thing or two when it comes to E30's about doing a 330d E30 and from the look on his face he wasn't up for it. That was enough for me although if money was no object........

Diesel conversion would cost so much it makes no economic sense in relation to better fuel economy - come on!

that guy in the video should be banned I once knew someone who drove like this on a regular basis and in ten years he never even got a speeding ticket; scared the hell out of everyone who ever went in a car with him, but he did cover ground faster than anyone else i have ever known. fortunately he has now left the country. maybe in czechoslovakia!

if you see how he drives with his forward planning. notice he brakes. when he knows he cant see foward or the gap is too small . or the driver in front isnt clear in what they are doing.
those kids were driving like idiots. and it was lucky they hit a truck and not a car full of a family .
ive been in cars driven like that and it felt safe. just because its not normal to cross the white line or overtake on a corner doesnt mean i can not be done safely.

I don't drive like that because I can't, my distance perception is rubbish. I need to know a road very well to be able to judge over taking opportunities or have clear sight ahead ...

A de-flapped (swirl flaps) 330d in an E30 would be a fast car and easily do 40mpg. 2k plus cost of a donor would give you a superb motor for less than 3k - or put another way for a bit more than the cost of LPG conversion.... I've fancied a 330d for years but for that money I'd consider a change on the touringvokietis wrote:i kinow the guy in Lithuania who does 3.0d conversions he done two e36s already, and he says he can fit this engine into e30,e28 and even e21.for a mere £2000 all incl engine labour etc.

conversion is only 2, plus 1 for the donor
6 cylinder lpg conversion can be 1250, so 750 difference.

I'd like to see a 330d conversion for £3k. If an S50 is regarded as a £6k job when mainly done DIY and is a simpler engine with easier electronics I'm sceptical.
However, prove me wrong and I'll be happy to stick an M54B30 petrol in an E30
