Pre or post face lift?

I'm not sure if you can just replace the glass in facelift models but early ones you can. There is euro car parts, german Swedish and French or C3 BMW? They do Hella or ZKW.

Thanks Chaps. Any ideas on what type of glue to use to bond the glass back on? Glass to plastic, also the rubber seal has a different glue as well. I Don't think black mastic is strong enough. What about the plastic glue used for sticking on plastic body mouldings?

Are you sure this is true? Last I checked, you could plastic replacement lenses for facelift but only an american firm.

A used set of used fogs is about £50 or so tho.

You've got to be talking about a facelift model (I've not had one for 10 years) but the pre facelift is held together by the screws at the front, no need for glue.

Its not that straight forward and, as expected (and mentioned before), the swap is for poly rather than glass.

i have tried omn several occaisons to remove the glass on a facelift foglight without sucess (my plan was to play with the idea of smoked fogs) but i never managed to get the lens off. Obviously if its already broken it should be easier.

To refix the lens silicone may work in sunny California, but in cold wet UK i would go for proper hot glue and a gasket of some description, otherwise you will have damp lights.

Sikaflex (sp?) would work as long as you never want it off again!

YOu can use Silicone, you can get hold of a Heatproof one they use on Boiler flues.
I use it on the headlights and have had no problems

stefan,

did you break the old glass off or remove it as a piece?

this is exactly what i wanted to do but couldn't get the glass off in same way as the headlights.

PS i also had HID's in the fogs they really do light up the road, but i suspect are illegal to have HID fog lights, even inh foggy conditions

I break the old one as they are proper glued
you'll never manage to get it off in one piece

why should be illegal? new cars have hids don't they? as long as they aim the road and not the eyes of the incoming drivers...

I'll just used them rarely anyway
