South African e30's!

heard of the 333i, never seen a pic ... u have any pics of this famous car, would be intereted to see them...
engines most probably derived from the 3.5 ,did these cars heat up in south africa would asume it's quite hot there...

They look like a Tech 1 e30 but with Alpina 16" rims, and have a 333i badge in the back. The engine came from the 733i. It does get hot here but nothing too bad.
But cooling is important, just as a side note the new Ford Focus ST was tested at a track here in SA and all 5 test cars over heated, the designers didnt make any modifications for the extra heat the cars would incounter, they just imported the UK model into SA.

But I have a bit to offer as far as rust, The cars I have has more rust than any other e30 i have seen.





I also went out and checked the body panels with a Magnet. It appears the hood is aluiminum. but the fenders and doors are steel.

Ja the 325is is phenomenal, too bad the hijackers love them too.

I remember an aquaintance from Durban who had a "pink" 325is with hockenheim R's and he specialized in hijacking.

A cousin in Joburg had both a std superboss and a superboss turbo as well as a std 325is and a 325is turbo

A few stories about the 333i as well.

SA cars do suffer from rust, but only the cars that lived at the coast, the cars from inland rust rarely, if they do rust, it is because the owner didnt take car of any exposed metal after a bumper bash.
Your car if from SA looks like a coastal car.

Yes it was down in Miami FL. USA so salt water coast car.

But even the firewall has rust holes in it. I have never seen a car rust so bad.

Ive brought my 1991 325is Evo2 here to the Uk with me and would you beleive it has started to rust !, I had it for almost 5 yrs in SA and not a spec of rust.

Was looking at a total respray and fixing rust BUT a BMW paint/panel shop quoted me in the region of Ԛ£4000 (stripping paint down to the bodywork..etc). - still pondering abt it.

Also when i has a problem with this brake discs/calipers. They had to be brought in from germany as they were M3 (5 stud) and not the std 4 stud.
But overall she still runs very well after all these years and 3 months on a ship. Customs were sh*t though, they practically tore the interior apart !!!!
removing the back seats..etc and damaging them in the process, have never been able to get the back seat to fit properly thereafter!. No idea what they were looking for !

Problem is with insurance, alot of the insurance companies dont want to insure imported cars(they actually refuse the business), thus far only 2 companies (tesco and directline) have offered to insure me. Alot of the online sites that offer quotes are unable to quote cos it doesnt pick up the engine size (2700) - fustrating !

any help with the insurance problem (suggestions/recommendations) would be appreciated

Have you tried Adrian Flux? No problem with my M3, good price too.

As for the bodywork, sounds like their having a laugh, where is the rust exactly?

Yes it will bolt straight in as both cars use the same M20 engine just in different states of tune/cc.
