smashed the sump off the e30
Moderator: martauto
ok, as the title reads i was driving home from a friends house yesterday in the rain, took a right turn a bit too optimistically the back swung out and i smashed straight into a kerb.
there was no body damage at all, however the car did jump up onto the kerb and the only thing that stopped it was the sump which smashed into about 500 pieces all over the road, as well as this the oil pick up was cracked right off and the engine turned off straight away.
i tried to turn it over just to see if it has any life going to it but it doesnt want to do anything, not even turn.
i've left the car on the side of the road and am going to pick it up today and inspect the damage further, really am gutted, will get some pics of the bottom of the engine up here later and hopefully some of you guys can see what ive fecked and give me some advice as to what needs fixing, it was too dark yesterday to tell anything.
thanks, fozz

you need to slow down mate when you driving, lol
£280 for a clutch,i swear i qouted you cheaper
let me know what the damage is,if you trid to turn it over after the oil had leaked out then you might of done some damage to the engine, sorry.
you should of left it mate, when you see oil leaking or leaked out never try turning the engine over.

lol, shaz i paid the guy a 100 to fit it, the clutch cost me 130 and i spent 50 on the clutch slave and master cylinder.
the engine turned off straight away and when i turned the key nothing happened at all it didnt turn so i couldnt have done any damage (hopefully) no doubt ill be at the garage soon mate getting it towed back later so expect a phonecall tomorrow.

What engine is it?
I know someone who can make taller engine mounts for the M42 (and potentially all other engines). I had them fitted to mine and the car was great - engine vibration was high, until I put a piece of rubber sheet between the mount and the engine, then it was fine day to day. And the centre bearing on the prop was fine too, not a single problem!

This happened to me years ago in a 318i coupe, hit black ice & the car went on to the corner of a really high kerb.
Ripped off the front spoiler & took out the bottom half of the sump.
The engine was still running so I managed to drive home (2 miles away, through heavy traffic, although I had the hazards on & ran every red light in Wembley)
Luckily no major damage was done apart from having to replace the sump.
