Bob those Hartge splits are
.
if I had a V12 then I agree. I love the noise from the m20 and m30. If I ever get an m3 or 320is then 16vales is exceptabletown325i wrote:24 valves is the way forwardFelix79 wrote:Too many doors and too many valesDezzy wrote:Just thought it would be nice to be a little different. when all the 12 valves have blown/died I might consider a 24v ,town325i wrote:24 valves is the way forwardFelix79 wrote:Too many doors and too many valvesDezzy wrote:Just thought it would be nice to be a little different. Didn't it have an is engine in it? All stuff of legend was M42 powered...town325i wrote:Noah's arch run on 12 valves
More on the topic - daring to be different, I've got some rota slipstreams going on the E30 soon.... once they are on I'll get some pics up!
Well it only allowed things going two by two so 2 vales per clyindertown325i wrote:Noah's arch run on 12 valvesRav335uk wrote:Ain't that the truth brother, Amen to thate30topless wrote: when all the 12 valves have blown/died I might consider a 24v ,

No just puddles of oil everywhere he leaves it, due to various oil leaks the cars had from newe30topless wrote:and it still ticks over smoothtown325i wrote:Noah's arch run on 12 valvesRav335uk wrote: Ain't that the truth brother, Amen to that![]()

Obviously yours was just a bad example. Then again why put a good engine in a moordoor.
Mines done 233,000 miles and does not drop a single specs of oil. Hell it don't even smoke any more! And yes it does have the right level of oil in it!

Hmm, maybe a bit of a generalisation. My chromie has done 245k and doesn't leak a drop - sits on a clean concrete garage flow and never leaves a traceall m20's leak oil

I was under the impression they burn oil rather than leak it everywhere.Kos wrote:all m20's leak oilFelix79 wrote:Obviously yours was just a bad example. Then again why put a good engine in a moordoor.

Well I always thought the nick name of them being called oil burner was due to them burning oil. Mind you I remember my old mans beemers over the years would burn oil off, none of which were m20's.

yep, most m20 sumps are wet due oil leaks lol
but on serious note, it has traditional sump with oil in it , what you are actual asking is it not dry sumped. not many road cars are dry sumped, not even bmw's S engines.

I have had several BMW's and engines (3xM20, 2xM10), and they all leak(ed) oil regardless of engine age or number of cylinders. Surprisingly my Audi A4 also uses a lot of oil (burns about 4L per year) but never leaks a drop. Must all go through the turbo and/or rings.

Cheers,
Michael.
Firstly, Bob, they are stunning hartge splitties. Not too much of a fan of 1 piece hartges though.
Wouldn't choose alpina's, but still nice wheels.
Rav. I hate you so much, I want RS's soo badly...
For me, BBS RS or Borbet B's. Both in 16x9 flavour!

proper (sorry Nav
) BBS 16x7 splitties

same wheels on the cab

16x7 Schitzers on cab and coupe:

and some 16x8 / 7 RH split copies:

and for the real old school MK 16x7

and the winners are... well Alpine are council, BBS not rare enough and get made too wide
, Hartges are to 80's and all the rest just copies.....there can be only one real 16 inch that is rare and looks good on any E30

Well quite the debate we have here.
There is nothing wrong with a proper M20 in an origonal alpina/hartger or even in the right copy
The moredoor has the wrong number of doors but is totally rot free. It's now got the right engine in. It was a good lerning cerve. Also it's tech2 kitted, with every bush replaced. It has some very nice little trinkets fitted and will make a very good road car when finished
Almost the complete oppersite from a rotten 2.5 reshelled alpina

I really want these though the offsets are wrong ET 38.
I would loose the stickers as well, maybe get the dish polished??
Still deciding if I like the idea of spacers.
