Right i need a bit of advice, as ive not dealt with this before so im unsure whats best to do and what options are open to me

march 13th, my 1st year of driving will be up and 1 NCB, im 31 years old

2 cars..
a mk3 ford escort 1986
and a 1991 318is

the escort i got a full year insurance with adrian flux, and then bought the is in november, and put the escort in the garage for winter, and the monthly payments ended december, and insured the is, on a pay monthly for £90 a month, to just get me through till march and 1st year over

so now...what do i do ?

i want to insure the is, on a year policy, but also insure the escort,, its tax/mot runs out end of month too

so plan is...have the is all year round, and just insure/tax the escort for 6 months,april-september, and just do limited miles, just nice days and sundays etc,and keep it garaged

but i justt wanted some advice on what options are there for me ? could i get both cars on 1 policy like that for a reasonable price ?

or would i have to take out a year policy on the is, then another seperate monthly policy on the escort ?

advice please

I would have the F*** on a classic policy with limited miles, think about the way you use it and buy enough miles to cover your needs with a little 'spare'.
Bung the daily on a standard policy and hope your NCB builds up.
I currently run two 'dailys',both on seperate policies so they both accumilate/retain a full NCB.
Project cabbie is pretty much ready for use so will be a third car,I intend to start a third policy for this one on a classic 'agreed value' basis, for 5000 miles or so.
If the wife's Toyota Starlet fails it's MoT badly and becomes weighbridge material,I will cancel the third policy and transfer the NCB to project cabbie, which would become the second 'daily'!
Youth is wasted on the young.

agreed, though i dont know if the mk3 escort would be classed as a classic yet, but i have a mk2 escort on normal insurance and a 86 316 on normal, 2 seperate policies, both come to less than £400 in total, but i have 6yrs ncb and im 24.

i have two cars my e30 is on classic ins with agreed valuation £212 fully comp 5k miles a year :D
the company i'm with don't use my 5yrs ncb on this policy so i have an 8 seater mpv as my daily on a separate policy with another insurer as this was the best way for me to go.

see the classic car insurance sticky at the top of the page.

its all a bit of a minefield

the cheapest ive found so far for a full year on the is, is £527 with ecar.co.uk, which isnt too bad i thought

all the classic ones in the thread,i was looking earlier...are by fone, so not tried them yet, il do them all in one stress filled afternoon of repeating same details over and over and being put on hold !

A car over 20 years and a driver over 21 years can normally get a classic car policy.

Lancaster use to do my cab and pina on 2 seperate policey.

You should be able to insure the Escort for buttons with a classic insurer - most classic policies don't use NCB anyway so as long as you're accident/points free it should be cheap.

I've used Lancaster for 2nd car policies for Years - they are very good and will quote you online.

Then you just need to find a normal insurer for your i.s to build up your NCB

on the 316 i'm with CIS, have been for years, very good service and you can drive any other car 3rd party, even if your cover is only 3 party, fire n theft, or at least they used to, defo do if your fully comp. and they do an online quote, but its best to ring them.

cheers lads, just been on the fone to some companies

didnt know the ncb could only be used on 1 car

so like you say rob...the ncb/full yearly policy is to go on the is, cheapest so far £527 ecar.co.uk, whom its currently insured on a monthly policy

so its now finding the best to insure the escort, its kept in a garage and only driven april-end of winter, on nice dry days for non work use, ....tbh im not gonna drive it a lot, so dont want to pay too much, been reading some classic companies require 2 years driving expirience

proving a little tedious and tricky going through these on the list at the sticky up top

ringing them up, to get half way then be told coz ive not had a licence/driving more than 2 years they cant do it

, the thought has crossed my mind, as i cant use my ncb anyway, if i cant find someone that will insure it cheap enough for limited 3k miles , ...ecar.co.uk want £60 a month pay monthly/as you go, thats £360 for 6 months, not too bad

thing is...its gonna be just sat in a garage a lot of the time and il be driving the is, it feels a bit dinasour to get in the escort after driving the is, and no power, but i still love the car

I have my insurance on my 316 with direct line , I have full ncb and it's protected but owner driver only ( no spouse ) so when I bought my 325 and wanted a second policy I rang them and they matched my ncb on to the new policy as well .The down side is if I change companies with the 316 I loose the ncb on the 325 .
