m20b20 turbo?
Moderator: martauto
anyone done that? what kind of boost will the original pistons/rods handle?
i guess many of you will recomand me another engine, but the thing is that i have:
-e30
-m20b20
-turbokit
I would rather sell it than put it together and do one burnout :O
is it even possible to get around 200 - 220 hp in than engine without blowing it up after one burnout?

M20B20 loves a turbo !
the extra 4mm of clamping around the fire ring makes them stronger to turbo
0.6 bar should net around 210 HP with the right parts, possibly more.

BMJG: i will keep you updated ;) maybe some of you will show up @ GATEBIL in norway? bring your e30's and come.
i have to get the car through the norwegian EU-control before i fit the turbo. norwegian cars are NOT allowed to have any parts on it than stock.

yep i will make a post with my "project" in here ;) so everyone with a little "dream" of makin a cheap turbo'd "sleeper" can read it and maybe do the same thing themselves!
the prices in norway is sick compared to the prices in the uk, so you will probably go into shock when i say what it is going to cost

Because the pistons are smaller the space between them is bigger this means more head gasket area to be gripped by the head and block faces, so the gasket doesn't get blown out by the combustion cycle.
I know how expensive Norway can be so you have my sympathy.
If the car must stay stock, I'd be inclined to build a 2.7 or 2.8 as it will always be stock looking then and you can even still turbo it again afterwards...
Although, a cheap turbo build may be cheaper way to 210bhp if thats what the b20 can give as Ant says

M42 rightness above 6500rpm, nobody can hear you scream
yes for sure, it have to be cheap and "easy"
i wonder why there is almost nobody who is drifting seriously with e30´s! i love the way it drifts! (have only tried it on sno and ice)
i have 100% lock in my diff and it works perfectly for drifting, thats why i need to turbo it so i can keep it up when summer shows up ;)

I'll be using an E30 for drifting this year... Although with 300+ bhp, I don't think I'll have a problem with keeping it up during the summer
Have a few friends that have dedicated E30 drift cars too such as a V8 powered one, S50 powered and just a few 325i etc as well as some proper track cars that enjoy the little bit of sideways action out of corners when trying alittle too hard

A Tech knows his stuff!!! very clever!! get a 325i sport put a t3 in it and run 270-290 bhp on 7psi! thats the way forward! with A Tech about £3500-£4000 got to love it.
No point buying a sport. Thats just wasted cash on the M goodies. Also, he said the 325i's are a pain to find.elnino1980 wrote:A Tech knows his stuff!!! very clever!! get a 325i sport put a t3 in it and run 270-290 bhp on 7psi! thats the way forward! with A Tech about £3500-£4000 got to love it.
If you've got the budget mate, bore out your 320i chambers and fit some bigger displacment, low comp pistons. Expensive, but then your most of the way to bigger returns from the turbo or s/c. You'd find a bit more than 6psi might be capable though your engine

Uni is killing the project.
