hi there my names scott, and im just about to purchase this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %26otn%3D2

what do you think?

what im planning on doing is, i want to deck it as it looks rather high, im told that springs for e30s are not very good to get a car low so i take it i need coilovers!

i then want to remove the wheels and put some ronal turbos or comp th monos on it!

then i want to rip the interior out and bolt a cage into it! and 2 bucket seats and harness and a new steering wheel!

in time i want to replace the rear bumper with a m3 one! and replace the mirrors also! and a few bits of paint.

and then drop another engine into it!

my questions are !

does any1 now were i can buy the following, cheaper the better! even 2nd hand would be cool!

*rollcage 6 point bolt in or just rear! rear would be better if they just make that?

*coilovers

*the piece that bolts on the spoiler that m3 dtm cars have that flips up to help with air flow,

*ronal turbos/th monos

what do you think the wheels on it are worth to sell on £200?

any advise would be appreshated!

I don,t mean to be rude but, you be better off looking for a 318is [if you can afford the insurance]
and save yourself a lot of aggro, after you have woken up from your dream lol[only joking] lol :)

pity it's only a 1.6.

i like this car needs a bigger engine though with those looks.

the wheels if all like the one in pic are £200 all day long.

http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... c&t=158102
Previously owned loads of old E30s, E34s, a few E36s, E32s, E39s and an E38.

Currently in a diesel Audi - miss me old E30's....

sorry but if you was thinking of looking at that car , you ask the zone their opinion . then come out with think ill go bk to jap stuff .
when you havent even tryed then theres no point talking to you .

if you wanted to have a proper go at it then you would look at other routes to a german car or better priced e30

but really .
316 for the ring .
after a skyline is a bad choice is your a speed freak

if you think you going to crash . then great , 316 is cheap . in the bucket load over in germany for parts and not bad bang for buck. you can get over 25 laps in a 316 but only 3 -4 in a gtr.

if you want speed then 325 . no point wasting time, swapping engines

its no jap engine performance
but its got every corner covered . handeling , looks, speed. and feel . and not like jap. the have brakes that can cope with stopping the car more than twice in one lap.
its a good alrounder.
and a good 325 is 1000 plus .
so no biggy on the bank account

i agree with the point

"if you wanted to have a proper go at it then you would look at other routes to a german car or better priced e30
not just throw the towel in"

but i have been so used to jap stuff, i did have a e36 m3 not to long ago, that i paid £2300 for which was pritty gd, but there just something about e30s i like!

and when i saw that one advetised on ebay, i saw alot of potential in it, by putting a engine, suspension, stripped, caged, seat diffrent wheels!

so i thought i would ask a few questions about stuff, as driftworks tell me your the boys to talk to and i just seem to get stupid answers! so i dont really no what you expect me to say!

yeah thats the sort of reply i wanted! so do you think that the car advertised in the link about would be gd if i swapped to a 325 engine ect!

to be honest the main reason i wanted this car is that its a very good example of a e30, the paint is a1 no rust or rot what so ever! and thought it would be a perfect starting block for a project! as stated in my first post, the intention was to change the engine! i wont be going to the ring in a 1.6 trust me ! lol

but that was going to bring me on to my next question, which was, will a 2.5 engine bolt straight in to the mounts? and is the wiring loom the same?

its a good idea. sure

some times a car is not worth it and maybe start a bit higher

dont buy the most basic range car at a fairly high price. with the intention to change everything .

it does look ok . but i personaly would say its not for you .
there is other cars out there better suited to you . (still e30)

a white 325i / 318 iswith a good amount of toys and then the vinal wrap motor sport stickers would be better for you i would say

maybe i got wound up to quick when you said youll stick with jap .
i thought heres somebody trying to wind us up .

i bought a banger . to then spend good money on it. and renew everything as and when .
but thats me.

nah . everything about the 316 318 is not worthy

everything is different

brakes . shocks. gear box. diff. rear brakes.wireing is all different
the only good bit is the log book but even then insurance is cheap enough. lol

it really is worth finding a car already done.

if you have the money .

i agree with starting with a clean one.
that takes a trained eye though , some look clean but are not. let me see if i can find a good example on a site and link it here

An iS is a good starting point for something like you're talking about. I thijnk there's quite a nice red one for sale on here at the mo, or did he decide not to sell it? Either way, it's got good suspension etc, and would cut out some of the hassle of making a wee beastie track car!

thank for your advise its much appreshated! but against your better judgment, im going to go and see it tomoz morning and chip it down a bit more on price! he has gone to £1300 so im going to see if i can get it for £1000-£1100 if he will take it ill buy it, and i think ill buy a cheap 325 and swap the rear axle suspension and engine over! and start building it into a track car to how i want it!

you did say if "when you havent even tryed then theres no point talking to you . "

so im going to give it a go! so ill think ill start ordering some bits ie coilovers ect now, and give it a go!

project e30 nurburg here we go

ill probs regret not listening to you! but ill give it a go! maybe a project thread to come!

lol .
on the other hand ,
getting stuck in is just as good as planning
if you waste more time planning and never doing rather than starting be it at the wrong level and keeping busy you get there just the same . and maybe better equiped at the end of it.

it will cost you a bomb though to get a 316 to a track day spec though
really think you need to test drive a 325 and the 316 before you buy ,.
just dont rush into it.
the difference is huge as far as the drive is concered.

you know the differance between the 2 litre auto skyline and the r34 gtr

thats what the 316 vs the 325 is like lol

yeah a friend of mine who had a e30 m3 and various e30s said the same, he said if i bought that e30 on ebay that when i was driving it home i would hate it! and wonder what i had bought! but as i said to him it was just a starting block! but the more i listen to you the more it sort of makes sence to start with something else !

if you stick add in the wanted section for a track car i am sure some one will come up with just the
the one on ebay i feel is over priced.
it looks clean but there is no pictures of the common rust areas and its got an aftermarket rear bumper (in different shade or white)
if you had say 2k
and a bit of the e30 knowledge you could get a car thats a bit of an animal.
there is really well converted cars on this forum . and now and then they get sold.
even on piston heads web site a red 316 that had a 2.8 engine inside.
no it said sold (at 1k too)
but its knowing how well it had been done and if it had any problems at 1k i would like to double check it.

but basicly
the ebay one looked pretty basic with a front bumper and some stickers it just didnt look right

you want it the other way round
plain looking animal
then sticker it up
you will get you moneys worth this way round and a better sorted car for your needs.

aim for a 325 or a 318is
the 325 has more track potential
sounds better and goes a little faster and is more interesting to track

the 320is is just under the m3 but the cost of both of these makes it not track worthy for beginners

though at the ring there are tons of m3s

or aim for a e30 with turbo .

right just thought id up date this thread, i bought the car last sunday! i paid £1300 for it! and i have spent another £1000 on it this week! the car is now lowered, changed the wheels for some dtm ones, it is now fully caged! and i added a omp steering wheel, and removed most of the interior! i also chaged the door mirrors, and had them painted according to the stripes! i also bought a single wiper conversion!

i am now just waiting for the bucket seats and harnesses to arrive! and then it will be onto the engine transplant! i cant deside what to go for! i did think about putting a cosworth or 200sx engine in it! but i reaaly want to keep with the german feel and fancy a 2.5 or something on carbs?

what do you guys think ?

and also what do you think of the car so far, compared to what it did look like!

im just going to go up to my workshop to take some photos so will post them as soon as im back!
