whilst i'm not going to argue about outright sound quality, i would guess that a decent alpine unit will sound 95% as good as a decent becker unit, and ask how many normal people who just want something that sounds nice will want to spend twice as much on a small improvement in sound quality for a head unit is something as acoustically challenged as an e30.

for me, with just some uprated componants in the standard footwell, mirror back and rear shelf locations, and a reasonably fruity exhaust it would be pretty pointless spending stacks of money on a top end stereo,

i also have to say, i don't think the backer units posted look that great in an e30 dash either, they still look too curvey. ali-bumbles one above is better, but still somehow manages to make oem style blandness look aftermarket
cheers,

harry

Your also going to need very good speakers all round, a very good amp and very good speaker cable.

Anything thats not of the same quality as the headunit will let the whole system down.

600 on the unit, another 600 getting the rest up to scratch to get the most from the amazing sound quality it offers??

The Becker isn't primarily about SQ. For me, the retro looks, Nav/Bluetooth/iPod all in one unit and build quality are what I was after. Anything was SQ wise was going to be an improvement.

I have audiophile Audioquest speaker cable in there and IXOS interconnects feeding a Genesis Profile 2 amp, Alpine DDD Components up front in custom door builds / tweeter mirror mounts.

It does the job - all for well under a £1G - which is good value.
