danthe did a group buy ages ago on them.

they definetly work and cut down on the "ddddd ddddd ddddd" lol from the back end.

decent rear end bushes and void fillers is about as good as you are going to get to stop the odd noises even a good e30 will make under use.

It's just the tyres gripping / slipping at a frequency the dampers can't cope with which leads to wheel bounce which exagerates he probem.

A car with brand new bushes, springs, dampers and tyres can on occasion do it so it doesn't always mean somethings knackered, although sloppy bushes are almost certain to make it worse. Likewise, new or updated bushes might solve the issue by shifting the frequencies and resonances.

It's called axel tramp as a general term for it, although it is different to the wind up and unloading of a solid axel cart sprung car.

Quite a few fwd cars do it too, even from brand new. the Clio 172 was well known for it

i've only hopped a twin wheel luton with no pay load in the back.

did the "GEMRANS" not resolve this?

anto tramp bars can only work on a live axle as it can wind the springs into an 's' shape. the addition of horizontal bars will force the axle to move up and down in a parallelogram fashion. the E30 arms only have one pivot axis so can only move in an arc, so fitting an anti tramp bar will stop the trailing arm moving at all.

incidentally, with poly rear subframe bushes and leda coilovers (with rose jointed ends), my car doesn't tramp at all.
it did before though and at santa pod when it had the ledas but normal rubber beam bushes, i got axle tramp which promptly blew the diff

+1

Knackered bushes just make it worse, mine does it occasionally with all new polys, dampers etc.

Can occassionally read about it in the road test of a brand new car, rarely now but more so say 10 years ago when suspension design was less developed.

Horrid sounding noise though eh...

My sport used to do this. I replaced the top-mounts, polybushed the whole rear end including the diff bushing and now it doesn't do it anymore.

I'm going to have to increase the side profile of my tires now though to try and mitigate the effect of the extra hardness of the poly bushes. i.e. I'm hoping the sidewalls will absorb some of the extra "new" vibrations transmitted to the car through the new bushes.

I was going to increase the sidewall height anyway, and now I have a second reason.

As for polybushing.... Mixed reactions from people on here as to whether they're a good thing or not. Plenty of valid reasons for both opinions. If my car was a daily driver I'd take them out again. But it's not, so I'm happy out. :D
