If they carry out vinyl work, then i'm sure they could do the work.
My mate can do it, he's agreed to do it on my E21.
Same proceedure as sign work.

Go for it and if you dont like it you can always peel it off then nothing lost apart from errrr, how much is it to wrap a car?

Excellent video Kieran, hats off to them they must have patience of a saint.

As far as I know, vinyl is as sort os plastic, but i would advise having it fitted over any rust, but it is waterproof.

woodstock signs or woodstock motors did a late golf i saw in a matt orange and i must say it did look very good, they are based in stonecot hill, surrey, they did the gumball 3000 run and seemed to have done them cars with vinyl. although looks as though the blade would get the paintwork underneath the vinyl if not careful and you wont know until its taken off :?
also where 2 bits of vinyl meet you must see a line... although that golf did look very good. i would do it!!

Go for it Jay, it's your car do what you want with it..

I've also thought about wrapping for a colour change have seen some really good examples. Anyone know where you can buy it from? I quite fancy having a go myself in a plain satin colour :D

Thing is, what happens if/when you get a chip or a scratch? The original colour will show through and I imagine it would be next to impossible to patch it up again to a good standard.

I'd imagine the only way to do any repairs would be to replace the whole panel if the scratch etc was bad enough. It's one reason why I'd want to be able to do the job myself, I'd hate to pay out and then have to go back for repair work. I don't know how easy it is to damage though, i'd have though it would be quite hard wearing when you see some of the applications it's used on.

And there lies the issue IMO.

900 quid to give a car a temporary finish! I could understand it if it was 300 / 400 quid but no more.

I can see why Ecurie do it as it protects the paintwork on their rental cars. Wonder if they cover/part cover all of their cars.

I use these guys for my materials. I'm fairly sure that vehicle wraps are done in a thicker more flexible media. It's not an easy job at all, Vinyl is basically a thermoplastic so by careful use of heat you can mold it to tight shapes.

I'm sure most places charge 1k plus for wraps, Most of that is labour.

I will be wrapping my car when my mate builds his garage (it's going to be huge so perfect to work in), a nice matt grey I think.

I thought for a while that a matt grey/black vinyl rap would look good but then I realised it would totally look like an e30 in a gimp suit

i have seen this done myself and it is not an easy task!! It is quite a skilled job which does not take much in the way of special tools, but does require a skilled person to apply it properly and with out creases, much in the same way tinting is easy if you know how, but (normally) ends up a real mess for DIYers. I can best equate it to those lads who remove dents without painting...if you watch them it appears quite easy...if you try it on a dented Spanish hire car its really really hard and it looks worse :o:

This cheapo car belongs to a local youngster and was (or really still is) Silver he wanted to buy a 722 with pocket change so before he decided on the colour he had is bog standard SLR wrapped in matt black. apart from the mirrors (which were sent back - but to be honest they are a very compicated shape) you could not tell from more than a metre away, and of course as you opened the doors. stone chips are easy as each panel is covered, so simply replace a panel (it also more resisitant then paint anyway!) each panel is normally pre cut from a template so simply cut out a bonnet panel and apply it to the car

As for rust that is a HUGE no no. rust must be removed before applying the foil, otherwise the oxidisation process will happily continue under the foil and you wil have flappy foil (as the metal under the foil disappears!)

would i do it to my car....yes but only if the paint was in good condition before i cover it. would i do it to a turd...yes as its probably cheaper then painting. have i dont it...No.

enjoy...

As you can see from that F430 video. They cut the vinyl ON the car. heard horor stories that when its all removed there are hundreds of scalpel marks all over the car.

Some polish out. Some don't...

To be fair, The only time you leave scalpel marks is if you have a blunt blade. Having done in excess of 150 vans that is my experience.

the lad i saw doing the SLR had mainly pre cut panels, he did trim some edges but these mainly were on none visible parts of the car such as in the creases etc.
