March 15th 1983 registration - that was when the E30 was launched in the UK. Must be one of the 2-3 oldest E30'son the road.

Oh noooo
Typical, one turns up when already committed to other expenses ie a new 1 series.

I will have to go to the bank and see if they can lend me some of their huge bonus, to fund this one. winkeye

RHD production began in 82 but the RHD launch was March 83 for the 316, 320i and 323i. So you will find the earliest as a Y plate.
Mine has the swingometer in the dash.

RHD production started in late 1982 to build up stocks for March '83 launch. Just as well because they soon ran out of cars - 3-6 month waiting list on some! It was for that reason the RHD 318i wasn't launched until late 1983 and even carbed 316's didn't get going until early 1983.
The silver one will be a late 1982 build I expect. You're unlikely to find many that are older. I bet the owner hasn't got a clue what he has - well, apart from 'interesting' spelling that is. :D

I sort of stumbled across this the other day. Andy - is that right; the early 320 (presumably the higher comp B20) had just 96hp ? My first thoughts were that the seller hadn't a clue about his engine, but your silence on that aspect suggests otherwise.

Early 320i's were 125bhp iirc. Later Motronic cars were 129bhp.

I used to own a y-reg 320i in a really dark gey metallic, it was completely standard apart from being slightly lowered and 15" touring bbs wheels (with dark grey centre caps for some reason).

Was a great car, and really solid, but my mates used to call it 'the shotgun beemer' as when i used to give it some stick and then lift off slightly it used to make a huge backfire from the exhaust, it used to scare the sht out of people!

Wished id kept it now, i sold it for 250 quid a few years ago

The only picture i can find is this one, when i was taking a work in progress picture of my M535i front end rebuild!

Image

Iv also just realised when looking in this one, it has no side repeaters! I never knew e30's came without them?

Which is what I thought. I can vaguely remember something being said about a marginal power-hike when the later engines were introduced - certainly nothing as great as over 30hp!

Nothing Pacerpete couldnt sort up his back passage i've heard :D :D

Just a bit of P40 and your away 8O

I wouldnt worry too much about the sills its the view of the rear tyres through the rear inner arches i'd be more concerned about, you know how these "wrong doors" rust :teehee: :teehee: :rolling:

The 83 spec models did come without side repeaters. IIRC the 84 model year ones came with them.
Mine originally didn't have them as the magazine shots show. But after motor had finsihed with it and it went back to BMW, they fitted them before selling it on through the dealer network.

using it to reshell my rotten and butchered tech 1. got a bit of rust on the front inner wings and around where the loom behind the fuse box goes into the cab but nothing a bit of mig wont cure. surprisingly that is the only rust on the whole car. Someone along the line had the sense to waxoly and underseal it at somepoint.
