i wouldnt of let any recovery truck take my car unless it was going to my house
then i would of phoned the insurance company up and made sure the surveyor checks if it is a write off at my home address i done it before i wouldnt let them take my landrover away i got paid out more than its worth and kept my car which only needed a front wing and few other bits its now back on the road thats what you pay insurance for its easiar for them to just write your car off than go down the road of fixing it

Sorry to hear of your accident. I'm sure the resources on here will quickly get that back on the road.
It was a day of active driving, very greasy in places with all the crap on the roads just now and could have happened to anyone.
All the best.

I didn't believe it, when I got the call to lets us know that Col and Ronan would be a little late due to your unfortunate and unlucky incident.
Main thing is that your OK.

I see the offers of parts etc are already coming in and Lee's dished out his legal expertise,so hopefully you'll get this sorted out in a reasonably quick timeframe.

Have some headlights here fella. They're not mint but not in a bad way either. Just pay the postage and they're yours..

Here's hoping you'll be back on the road soon. :thumb:

how come it ended up in the recovery yard? i thought you were having it taken home?
ive seen many a car crash at that spot and seen another e30 on its roof there a few years ago.its not a bad bend but theres definately something funny about that stretch of road as you come off the roundabout and uphill on a long sweeping left hand curve.

I bought mine back after a cat C write off and today was the day it had the VIC certificate issued and I was able to send all the documents back to the insurers to get it back on the agreed value policy.

I got all the parts I needed through the zone.

Its a good feeling when you put it all back together.

Good luck.

i had similar type damage to my cosworth touring less than 24 hours after the conversion. i believe it was oil on the road. or perhaps i was swerving to miss a dog i cant remember.
anyway, although not quite as bad, my chassis leg was bent a bit , i fixed it myself for about £200.

The recovery lorry driver said, yeah, no worries I'll bring it where ever you want, I'll just have to check it's ok with the insurance company first. He made a call and then he was saying - sorry - have to take it to the yard.

I would echo these words.

Remember the car is still legally yours until the insurance company pay out for it. herefore you dictate where it goes etc.

Sorry to read this mate. I think I still have an unused passenger wing up in the loft of my old flat - never fitted/painted. I actually got it off fuzzy for nowt many moons ago, with a view to using it on my calypso 318i but I never got round to painting it before the car expired. You're welcome to it.

Sometimes you have no choice in the matter; if the car's causing an obstruction on the highway and the police attend, they will insist it is recovered asap and call their own recovery agent who will take it to their chosen yard.

I tried to get the AA to recover mine last Saturday evening (I have 'Roadside Recovery'), but apparently they won't do it after 5:00pm! So I had no choice but to let the police recovery agent take it :(

The police were there and they would not let the car be driven away due to the sharp edges. The recovery man wasn't going to go against his instruction. Wasn't anything Al could have done.

Any update on the situation with the insurance?

Hi Ronan,
The car has now been taken to another garage in Sighthill Industrial Estate to be surveyed and to then get the Elephant chap to come and have a look at it - I've contacted Elephant and let them know (in no uncertain terms) that I want to keep the car and that I expect a decent payout. They have assured me that they will come back to me on Thursday to advise where things are at.
Currently spending time scanning all the cars history/reciepts etc onto email ready to send off to back up my demands for more money - I've also got about 15 ads that prove that E30's in excellent condition currently command a decent amount. This combined with the bill of sale and original advert should be a decent amount of ammo to start with. I'm hoping that I can wangle about £1500-2000 (clear of the £250 excess) and the car. This would allow a full resto or the ability to get another E30 (probably cabriolet) and use my tasty bits to get it up to spec (Mtec stuff and refurbed BBS's etc). I'll then consider where I go from there.
Pain in the ass, but I suppose if I get a car back on the road and in great condition by the NY I'll be happy (I could even have a wee bit of money left in my sky-rocket, you never know).
I could be on cloud cuckoo land, but I suppose you've got to start high.
I'll keep you all updated.
Al
p.s. thanks again to all for the kind words and offers - I'll come back to you all once I know where I stand!!!

Any reccommendations - would be good to have this sorted, as I'm going to have to start thinking about transporting it from its current place to where it will get fixed.

Al, I got my Sport bodywork and painting done at a place called the Arches in Manderson Street, Leith. The guy in there (Mark) just sold a Tech II Sport that he rebuilt so he knows these cars pretty well. Reasonable prices too.

There's another guy on Gorgie Road I've had highly recommended to me, but he wasn't interested in working on the rear of my Sport.

Any word from the insurers ?

Also, if you can't drive it, JBH and Gordon have a trailer and Gordon's got some time these days so you could ask them. I also know a guy in Fife who has a landrover and a large trailer, his prices are reasonable.

Cheers mate - These sound like great options! I saw mark's tech II on the zone and it looked very good - I'll contact him. What work did he do, and what did he charge?(if you don't mind me asking - as it would be good to get some sort of idea)
I'm not sure that i'll be able to drive it - definitely not road worthy ATM so i'd be looking to get it transported to Mark (or whoever) asap. I've got a PM from Gordon so i'll see if they can help me, once I know what's what.
Car is being assessed by Bennetts of Scotland, and then I'm assuming that Elephant will sent out one of their guys to check out this first assessment and provide their initial findings. I'm lead to believe that Bennetts are getting the car assessed today and I'm hoping that Elephant get their chap onsite tomorrow, so i can get some sort of response from the insurers by the end of the week. Pigs might fly, however!
