probably on the high side, but not stupidly so. depends on the version, miles, history, modifications etc

you'll struggle to find a good working order one for under £2k

2k now is considered cheap for a good 2.3 s14 engine. Expect to pay over 5k for a 2.5 s14!

a silly amount to pay for a relatively low powered engine unless you have an m3 and need that specific engine to replace your own. i wouldnt pay that to fit it in an average e30.

A 2.5 S14 make about 320 bhp in hillclimb trim their a bit of a dady in the N/A world and the prices in the UK are about 2/3 of thayt in germany, and the german prices are going up.

And the last time anybody on herer was looking for a running s14 they proved very hard to find.

195 engine, probably needs a full rebuild too. Every S14 I've been involved with rebuilding have had bent exhaust valves atleast.

Also the statement "ran perfectly before removel" doesn't inspire me with much confidence either.... I've had bad experiances based on comments like that in the past from sellers.

I spent over £3500 on rebuilding my 2.3 S14 after it ran a bearing...

Some was on upgraded bits and some machining work, but the biggest chunk was on the parts...everything is expensive!
£3k for a good low mileage one isn't too much...

That one at £1500 doesn't give mileage or condition...I'm with Sheps...probably needs a rebuild so will be near the cost of the £3k one before it's ready to be put in a car...

I was told a very poor s14 in need of a rebuild would cost 2k. Im presuming the cost of a rebuild would be around 2k depending what you had to replace.....I spent a grand on cams and the same on my head.

Imagine a set of evo pistons, a balanced evo crank and carbon airbox.....probably 3k on those alone!!!

You can easily spend £8000 on a crate XE or K series and the K won't have as much power. I thought 12 bags sounds about right if it makes the claimed power.

Its intended to meet some sort of motorsport regulations so it will sell to someone racing I would think. I doubt it would be bought by someone wanting to make their m3 a bit faster.

Yeah cant see it being too clever round town below 7,000rpm!!!

My friend said once you get to the realms of 290bhp+ you are looking at rebuilds quite often yet can have 270bhp and not worry too much!

5000 mile rebuilds could be potentially expected. 8O

When you are pushing over 115bhp per litre, these 'slight' negatives are to be expected

if you put it in a right hand drive car you will need a different exhaust downpipe to route it around the steering column. This is why BMW didnt bother making a factory rhd M3 as it would lose about 15 bhp! I'd go a different route and leave this to someone who needs an M3 engine that they've blown up!

Standard manifold fits it is jsut the down pipes are spread out to clear the steering coloumn, or thats what Birds did. Lose 15bhp doubt it.

The factory only had to sell 5000 to go racing and 5000 lhd cars are cheaper to develop and make than a mix of lhd & rhd, and due to the demand for LHD cars there was no need to sell any RHD to make the umbers up.

There is a memeber on here call Demlotcrew and he has an S14 in his RHD 318iS. That uses on of the manifolds Birds used in their RHD conversions and his engine with a relatively low spec, makes 237bhp.

I'd of said £12.5k is pretty reasonable for that engine.

Can't beat and S14 screaming at you around 8krpm :)
