Man with taste! What engine size? I've insured a 3.5 at 19... Cost me £1400 for that, got a 2.8 at the moment.
Have you gone on the usual comparison sites?

yeah. i looked at comparisons sites when i first started looking at cars and was looking at about 3 grand for insurance on an e30 so dismissed them but reading on pistonheads and other forums ive heard of people insuring them on classic insurance for about a grand so gonna look into that way before i end up buying something else thats cheap to insure

Give Peter Best insurance a go.
Think I paid about £200 odd for my GT6 at the ripe old age of 19.

Good luck in the search, but i do feel your going to struggle to find a classic policy at 18.
You never know your luck though, happy insurance hunting

im 18, insuring a 320 cabby, i found classic car insurance was over priced about 3-4k compared to the 1600 i got on a price comparison site, direct line were cheapest in my first year on a mk3 golf but wudent quote me on anything obive a 1.8 or with a gti badge ect.
Classic Policies usually come with a lot of restrictions such as limited mileage, the car must be garages and you must have a another (primary) car that is your daily driver - this is all to prove it is in fact a cherished car and you're not trying to get insurance ion the cheap. The comparison sites don;t seem to accommodate 'classic policies' and some insurers flat out do not offer them.
You need to talk to a specialist that knows the deal with this, big insurers are usually clueless.

I think you'll struggle with classic insurance at 18. Minimum 21 I think. Also, a lot of classic car policies are specialised so that you can get your money back for a good one, for example an E30 M3 is worth a bomb now, but insurance companies book prices will be a hell of a lot lower. So get classic insurance, a limit of for example 5k/6k miles and insurance for £15,000 providing images and certain proof of the car is provided.
At your age, get a normal policy if you can.

direct line have been one of the most expensive. cant get a quote online even on a 1litre car and when i rang up they wanted minimum of 3 grand for a 1.4 fabia or 1.2 corsa.ImysE30 wrote:Direct Line seem to be quite cheap, £800ish to get insured on a 2.5 now (21 with 1 years NCB).
Still ruddy expensive though![]()
gonna ring up the classic one tommorrow as power was off today so didnt get a chance
some of you guys have been lucky with insurance prices lol
im 20 now with 3 years ncb and im still paying 800 on a 318i (could be the points ...)
but my first two years were £1564 and £1400 on a 2.0s capri with mods declared

When my sport was on the road last year i was with classicline car insurance and was paying £392 a year but that was limited to 5k miles a year. I was 23 at the time but might be worth giving them a ring. For normal car policies i tend to find direct line and churchill are the cheapest for quotes for me.

im being ripped! im paying well over 2k for my 325i sport 3rd party fire and theft and im 20 (no ncb though, only passed a few months back) i searched for a classic quote and most companies wouldnt give me one until im 21. quinn direct are at the moment the cheapest for me when i am 21 not including the classics as i want to build ncb. im mainly being ripped off because im on the same policy from when i was a learner, so they put it up when i passed and put it up when i changed from my 320i learner car to 325i sport. i loved overtaking people with l plates
not really related but can anybody tell me why not a single company will quote me on an e30 m3 but will for an e36 or e46 m3 or even a ferrari f430?? i dont have that money i was just seein what the difference was a while ago.

I tried to go down the same route with my Sport. I'm 25 but since I've had company cars all my life (and they were all pool cars) I have no NCB. Frustrating since I've not had an accident or points in 7 years!
Every single company I tried for classic insurance wanted the car to be at least a second car, garaged and ALL wanted me to age five years! Couldn't find a company that would insure me (admittedly on a 325) under a classic policy until I was 30
Best of luck in your search

Because if you crash an E30 M3, you'll want the money back, even say years down the line!not really related but can anybody tell me why not a single company will quote me on an e30 m3 but will for an e36 or e46 m3 or even a ferrari f430?? i dont have that money i was just seein what the difference was a while ago.
TBH, you can get quoted on an E36 M3 at 20, but it wont be nice. Never tried an E46, but dont see why not. They shouldn't of quoted you for an F430 as you need to be 25 years old to get insurance on that higher group.

Money talks, there are insurance companies out there that will insure anyone on anything, sadly though they are out of most of our leagues, both the cars and the premiums.

looks like i wont be getting one as have rang most companies in the classic car insurance thread and have either been told no or quotes come at around £7000. gonna leave it till ive got atleast 1 years ncb then try again as ive always like the shape of e30 so defiantly want one.
thanks for all the advice so far

Why don't you try a non-classic policy? plenty of zoners had e30s as first cars.

its working out more then 3 grand on them plus the ones which have been cheap with other zoners wont give me a decent quote on any car no matter if its a 1 litre corsa or the bmwmarch109 wrote:Why don't you try a non-classic policy? plenty of zoners had e30s as first cars.
