2 day conversion.

on friday we started putting a 3.8 e34 m5 engine into an e30cabby.

Today (saturday) we got it all fired up and running.

I pretty much had everything covered for the conversion because most of it is documented on the net.

However when we can to fit the steering gear back on i realised there was no chance.

After speaking to a guy i knew who had done a few he was left scratching his head because all the conversions he'd done were left hookers.

someone in the workshop today sugested getting a new manifold made but i soon dismissed that idea.

so witht he help of a grinder, a gas axe and a bucket of water i set to re bending the manifold to suit. Had to grind off some alley from the steering gear but at least it turns now, mind you it is tight.

I'll get some pics of it up soon.

Had to share my days experinces because i'm well impressed with my handy work and nobody i showed today thought it was a big deal.

I only took a few pics of the steering gear. I'll get them up at work tomorow.

The car is running and better still it turns!!

I used a clio brake servo instead of the vw one as i heard it made the brakes a bit spongy (e30 brakes worse than standard!!!)

used the clio brake vacum with the e30 servo because the clio has 4 brake holes. BUT, when trying to bleed the bakes i got no pedal.

so,

put the clio vacum with the clio servo on the car. need to fabricate a brake pipe and block a hole up but should be good to go.

still need to make the exhaust. unfortunatly its not my car else i'd have had out tonight without the exhaust. Sounds phat with no pipes!

Sorry i didnt get thie pics up straight away, i drop my phone in used engine oil. But lucky for you guys i had to take the steering off again last night so theres some pics.

The car runs sweet, got it running at 4am this morning. Perfect for a test run with no bonnet!

I'm a little disapointed in the performance, i expected something much more. Its not slow by any means, just thought it'd be faster.

Got to looking to it a bit more. I haven't put the lamda on so hoping its in a limp mode or something.[/img]

I'd be interested to see what you find, so please do share. My E32 M30B35 swap has the same issue. Reading on the net, it looks likely (though I cannot quite believe this) that simply having the EML and 'Check Engine' dash warning lights missing may cause the limphome. It appears the ECU finds missing resistance where the idiot lights should be, and figures this warrants a limphome. E32/E34 had these idiot lights in the cluster, the E30 dash does not.

I will eventually get around to finding the right ECU pins and putting a couple of bulbs across them.

On my M30B35, unplugging the lambda runs a default fuel map - runs exactly the same with lambda plugged in or disconnected. Perhaps the M5 engine is different, but personally I doubt the lambda is the issue.
