DOn't you have electric windows? that's my gremlin at the moment :D

I've liked the E30 since I saw them rallying with us (we rally a 205 GTi in the Yokohama challenge) Always thought they looked really cool.

Also, my dad had BMW's growing up, and I always wanted one, they seem like such a manly car lol 8)

pete, great thread fella :)

for me it's the looks, great to drive (fast or slow ) :D
simple engineering that works very well as far as reliability is concerned
easy to work on, parts are plentyfull and cheap, unless you have a Hartge :(

I like the way that no 2 are the same, all e30's have their own personality 8)

That is what I feel keeps them exciting, and not boring.
Yes they are now old, slow and well old, at the end of the day my car still puts a smile on my face
Got to be one of the best bits to their character
I reject your idea of reality and replace it with my own ;-) . . .

Where I come from it is one of the few rear wheel drive cars (other than family sedans) from that era that is still affordable, looks good and is easy to work on

I like the looks and the sound (6 pots), still a relatively light and compact car you can hussle along, I like the interchangeability of parts from other newer models (M50/52 etc), old german metal just seems to have a style I like and weathers well.

They are cheap and affordable to maintain and improve.

I am stuck in an 80's timewarp with music and films (both from the 80's and that are set in the 80's like the Business, American Psycho etc). Infact I am currently listening to a Simple Minds Live album :)

what did it for me was when i was 6 i would go to my grandads house and he had a 320i. every time we would need to go out i couldent wait to go in his flash BMW. I always loved the sound and it also had that e30 smell.
well then 15 years later I finaly bought one of my own. On to my second e30 now but i dont think i will ever sell it. Last month i had some one go in it and they said it smells like a bmw. crazy after 20 years!

For me, looks, rwd, drive quality and simplicity. Interesting features and lots of diversity.

Straight siz engine. Dealership is still somewhat nice to us for a 20ish year old car.

:D Love'em.

They just feel so exciting to drive compared to modern cars, they may not be quick against the stopwatch but they really do fool the arse dyno.
I am considering LPG on mine though, the cost of fuel is getting silly, but you can't really blame the E30 for that. Also, I don't like the prices people come up with for putting LPG on modern cars!

Though I'm not stuck in an '80s time warp, I do appreciate the best from each decade. To my mind, the E30 was a triumphal episode in BMW's invasion of the UK car market. The E21 was popular amongst the cognoscenti, but it was the E30 that fired everybody's imagination. Although somewhat boxy to look at its clean, simple lines, build quality and range of well-engineered, rugged and long lasting engines were admired then and 26 years later, the model still commands great respect.

There are plenty of faster, quieter, more comfortable cars, but few can make you feel quite so good. I'd almost forgotten what it was like to drive one and had got to the stage where I looked upon virtually every car journey as a chore. Then I took this one over and it's fun again. Happy days :D

Mainly down to the drive for me. They do look mean, but they are just so much fun to sling around :)

I see E30's the alternative Ford Sierra they both rusty money pits and owners will never accept the true facts its a tired old common dog and that rare occassion when it all works its a relief that 1 day of pleasure out of the year makes up for the turd you willingly put up with ruining your life.

I was 2 when my tech1 rolled of the production line! My dad had a 325i from new not that i can
remember it! he also had a carlton gsi 24v and a 535i and various other bm's so i grew up around fast cars, and i blame him for my bmw obsession lol After i owned a couple of e36 328i's and a e39 540i i was quite shocked at the build quality and feel of the e30 compared to them two especialy the e36 which has got to be the worst bmw ever built inmo :)
although i love my bmw's i also love a fast ford, namely a 3 door sierra cosworth which i hope to get my mits on soon

I got married in 1981 , two of my sons were born in the eighties but there was never a chance of driving let alone owning a BMW of any description.
I had Ford after Ford and then changed over to Datsun and up until five years or so ago I had anything that got me around , that is until my best mate (only one) turned up with this ace looking BMW , auto AND for sale.
As I was driving a metro and the BMW had loads of tax and test I bought it from him .

Five years down the road and I really dont wish to drive anything else right now !
Ive had all the fast cars , Ive built a kit car in 83 so I know what I like and I like mine.!!!!!

Its very cheap to own, great to drive and it looks REALLY Menacing especially compared to modern day crap , but above all ,I have met some great people along the way BUT Pete (Sweep ) if you buy a Focus ...........................................

Well Ive had both and I know which one I would have.
You only get out what you put in to which is why mine is still my daily and only car after five years.
