I don't mind modded cars but I am stupidly anal about orginaltiy with my Alpina. I even spent time to track down the correct needel colours and the correct dial faces.I sorced the correct ones and fitted them so it was as orginal as when it left Synter back in 85.

Let me guess you started that movement? I put orange indicators back on my turd years ago.. Looks far betterOn_a_Roll wrote:Lol!Andyboy wrote:one thread on E36 Coupe.com debated going back to orange indicators........
I had clears on my car for a while and though it looks ok and is the absolute edge of what I'd do mod wise it never really sat right with me - used to lie awake at night, shout at people at work and stuff...
Gone back to Orange now.

The odd mistake here and there I can handle, but 'there' for 'their', 'write' for 'right', greengrocers' apostrophes everywhere. Just ignorant.

They are rather dirty yes..On_a_Roll wrote:Well, I've been Clean Orange again for about a year and a half now and it's going great.
Dark past best forgotten and all that.
Your wheels are 'orrible.
Unless of course you meant anything else. In which case you are wrong (again).. Lighter than a BBS, strong, from BMW and with proper sized tyres, plus needed for brake clearance

But the absolute number 1 cardinal sin of modding is using parts from a different model!Jhonno wrote:They are rather dirty yes..On_a_Roll wrote:Well, I've been Clean Orange again for about a year and a half now and it's going great.

It's the absolute worst!
Like E36's with E46 18: MV Sport wheels!
Not on! What's wrong with M3 wheels or Alpinas?

Trust they came in handy for the hand therapy.

Different case.GrindCulture wrote:So you don't agree with Z3 rack conversions?
As the offending part is 100% concealed, not contributing to any exterior aesthetic imbalance and going by the fact that it improves an area deemed lacking in the E30 - you could have a case in a court of law.

Look, I'm a genuine new member, I might not have endeared myself to anyone on this site but I have no history. I bought a 318is three weeks ago, I've had two other E30s in my time. That's it - no agenda.

That is a little unfair, in the same way that Beerboy made initial snap judgements about E30 owners which were a little unfair.gazm3 wrote:First impressions last. 25 posts of tosh so far.

I like Beerboy, leave him be. His biggest issue here is four-pot wrongness rather than anything else.

Its all about personal taste and freedom of choice. Original or modified at least we have the choice. Just remember if Hitler had won the war we would all have to drive VW Beetles ( god help us).
I keep mine totally original but I still like to see a nice tidy modified E30. Anyway just remember all the chavved up sheds eventually end up as donors for those of us who keep our E30's nice, modded or otherwise.
PS. No degree but I can still spell and know my times tables all the way to 10. LOL

Beerboy, I'm sure no-one's that up tight about it - we're all just making the point that pronouncing personal judgments on internet forums (fora?) is a bit daft. This will all die down and the world will move on.
Regarding the whole spelling and grammar thing, the only important thing is to try and be understood - I'm sure no-one on here purposely writes in code or anything. Standard English exists so that at any given point there is a legal definition of the language, such that communication in its widest sense can be adjudicated upon in order to interpret the better the actions of people. It should not be confused with 'right and wrong' - your schoolteacher may have used these terms in order to facilitate and evaluate your education in the language, but outside the classroom, it's best just to try and be understood. There are some very interesting books about dialect, patois and creole that you could study in order to gain a fuller understanding of this area of research, but I don't think it's likely that you'll find an enthusiastic discussion about it on a car forum.
Classic and Sports Car is just old car porn, hence my shame in admitting to reading it - it's the Playboy of old car mags though, classy beauties in carefully retouched photos. I buy it for the articles, honest. Practical Classics also has its own stack in my bedroom - that's a bit more like the magazines you found in hedges as a nipper though, hairy bonnet akimbo shots of slightly ropey Triumph Vitesse, mother of three. It should come in a plain buff envelope.

Mine's a big block 2500 though..
For my tuppence, mods are OK if they can reversed.
I would love to find some Nutria cloth to repair my E30 seats to original, but I have noticed that my 1er sport seats would almost bolt straight in to the E30s. Decisions, decisions...
nowt wrong with this,BEERBOY123 wrote:I know E30s are not museum pieces and need to be used but I have to wonder about some of the horrible 'improvements' made to many of the cars proudly paraded on this site.
Can you imagine E-Type owners adding stupid spoilers, non-standard wheels, 'smoked' glass and all that rubbish to their cars? There seems to be a split between genuine E30 custodians and idiot boy racers on this site - of all sites.
The image of this modern classic is going to be tarnished if we're not careful. And while I'm ranting, the boy racers can't spell either.

even this has a few after market additions and owned by a very pleasant senior member of the forum,

though i did have concerns over this old dog.

What a read!
I'm 35, I have an A level in English literature, a degree in law, I run my own business, I love E30's and I drive arguably one of the most chaviest (yes it's a word) E30's on the Zone.

You don't like it? REALLY? I don't care.
