Had my first MOT on the bus today, I thought it was a keeper but turns out its rotten. Sniff. All 4 inner arched need attention, the sill and the passenger jacking point, passenger footwell, guy reckons £450-£500 for welding. Then on top of that needs new front to rear brake pipe and both rear brake pipes. Few other bits and bobs but its already too dear for me to fix. Unless anyone knows any really cheap welders in the Plymouth area

That would be fantastic (but I am not hopeful) hey ho, another one bites the dust...RM2186 wrote:Maybe some helpful zoner with welding kit near you could help. Don't give up hope yet.
Will get some pics and list it for sale see if anyone wants a project or to frag it!

Thanks Tone, however I think its going to have to go. If I sort it this year, however cheaply I might be in the same boat again next year. Shame but I am limited to my finances (same as everyone). The pi55er is I just put 4 new tyres on, changed the rear dampers (koni) new top mounts and bought new front spax adjustable ones, and other bits and bobs, thinking it would all be mechanical, honestly thought the shell was solid. I would value your opinion as to what I can ask for it when I get the pics taken, will try and seel on here. I am looking at an E36 tomorrow, if I can get it cheap enough could be a way out! Do you think I might get a couple of hundred quid towards something else for the bus ? IT looks pretty tidy on the surface, interior is clean, 15" BBS are quite good too (missing 1 cap tho)
THanks again, really appreciate it.

Well, your BBS wheels with new boots will fetch well over a ton, more if they are good branded tyres and the wheels themselves are in good nick. Take your other new morsels off, and you could do a very minor frag of other bits (as much as you can be arsed with/have the time for/have the space to store) and just get a local scrapper to come and hiab the shell away, probably for no charge. Best way out financially.bazman wrote:Thanks Tone, however I think its going to have to go. If I sort it this year, however cheaply I might be in the same boat again next year. That's an awful lot of rust for a touring! Suggests to me that there was some kind of problem at the factory, and the paint/underseal didn't 'take' properly.
In your position, I'd be looking for a better shell, as most of them are, and then indulging in some parts swapping.
I've only ever come across one touring as rusty as this sounds, except for a few that have had badly repaired accident damage. The rusty one was really rusty, with corrosion extending up underneath apparently good underseal, just like you find on Fords or Vauxhalls, etc. Hence my paint problem theory.

I did the front to rear brake pipes on my Cirus chromie on tuesday, was not looking forward to it but supprised how easy it went. Started at 10:00 and was completely finished and at 15:30, so i would say the brake pipes are not that difficult to do.

THanks Brian, and everyone. I was surprised as it looks well tidy up above like!
