Obviously, the number of doors etc. But wings? prop? Is a 4 door slightly longer?

The main difference is the value ..........

Dimensionally they are all the same. Obviously convertible doors and wings are unique but saloon panels are all interchangeable between 2 and 4 door. In fact that is the purpose of 4 doors, to provide a supply of bits to keep nice 2 doors on the road ! :)

Although less than tourings and if you want to go tracking its a stiffer shell (rust not withstanding).

Pete loves moordoors really lol!

i prefer moredoors meself, fragging 3 at the moment and you got more bits to sell, pete dont need the money so he sticks to 2 door models. apart from front seats tilt on a 2 door and front seat belts mount different, rear bench seat is different is about it really

So to clarify, would the drive train from a four door fit straight on to a 2 door?

Seeing that a 4 door E30 is most at home on a weighbridge, now's your chance to find out just how much more they weigh.

Am i the only one that actually prefers 4 door e30's to 2 doors :)
At least with a 4 door you have a better chance of it not having been owned by a zit faced wanna-be Lewis Hamilton type who frequents Halfords on giro day.
And there is the practical side which any of you with young kids will know about when it comes to opening those huge doors far enough in a car park for them to get out of the back.
Maybe its just an age thing but there you go...

I generally prefer 2 door E30's. The back seats are just for show really. I hate taking people in the back cos they can't get behind the drivers seat. I end up pulling my chair forward and driving like my Mum. i.e. with the steering wheel under my armpits.

There's always Goosiegander's moredor though which is quite a special looking one!

I think it's because I gave up riding bikes not that long ago and obviously I couldn't take the whole family on the bike. The E30 has replaced my bike and is for me to hoon around in for some peace so 2 doors/no room is kinda the perfect excuse.... winkeye

Another fan of 4 doors here. 2 doors without an M-tech kit and what not tend to look horribly plain/bare in my humble opinion, where as even a base model 4 door rocking bottlecaps looks 'right' from the factory.

I really don't understand the bickering among 2 and 4 door owners, at the end of the day they are the same cars!

Anyway... they are both inferior to the mighty touring! winkeye

i dont think i will get another shell as good in fairness

i actually spent ages a month ago cleaning all the muck out of the arches and polishing them, now when i wash it i clean them out with a sponge and are as good as new, hopefully it will make them last winkeye winkeye thats the theory anyway winkeye

As far as oily bits go,anything on a proper E30 (a four door) will bolt straight on to the lesser two door models....this includes exhausts.
Body bits,4 door cars doors/rear wings obviously do not swap! Rear doors on tourings are different at the rear top,the touring has a 'square' quarter light,4 door has a rounded one.
Pete has covered the cabbie differences, but cabbies are very different in detail as far as the bodyshell is concerned.
Strange how perceptions of E30 has changed over the years, back in the '80's the dealers could not sell 2 door cars(hence the UK only 'sport' and the 318iS)but could not get enough of the proper 4 door one's.The same thing happened in the secondhand market,4 door cars carried a huge price premium,I wanted to swap my E21 320 for a 4 door E30,the only car within 50 miles of Lincoln was a '83 318 at £3000,I bought an '86 E28 520i for £1500.. this was in,I think,1992...

I bought a 4dr because I couldn't see the point in paying more and getting less with a 2dr - I already dance like my Dad, I've also started to covet warm, flat beer, so I'm naturally against anything that seems to be fashionable.

It probably is an age thing, I passed 25 and bought an old person's car in metallic brown. It has stock suspension and bottletops too, Chalfont St Gemeroids spec!
