Moderator: martauto
Ok guys,
I know you are all aware of me being on the look out for a nice M Tech 1, well here you go:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1046722.htm
Looking to collect on Saturday guys...
Couple of small dings on the bonnet, no reported rust on the arches, 9 former keepers and good history with the car im told...
Current owner has had the car 4 months, he stated he hardly uses it hence the sale...
I think for the money it looks quite nice and ill be looking to spend some on it to get it 100%...
Thoughts please, I always appreciate feedback guys....

Looks like a gooden. Just make the usual checks to check its a sport, looks like one, but just in case.
Price isnt bad..........Owner doesnt speak about road tax, or did I miss it out.
One thing, if you do get it, get rid of that rear spoiler, that m badge on the back. But thats just my preference.

Looks ok except for that horrible rear spoiler.
It says it has electric windows so where are the switches????
If it has no major rust it seems reasonable but i would rather have that other one that turned out to be an SE if it were me.

one thing i would say actualy after looking again is check the rear bumper mountings etc for rust as it look like its fallen a bit on the one side if you look at mine, also spotted the original?side stripes running down the sides

Fair play chap. Now get underneath it and poke everything with your favoured rust poker! The zone will congratulate or commiserate...RSTurbo50 wrote:To be fair, one thing he did say was that the rear bumper needed clipping back on properly as a clip was missing, hence the slight drop...
Just bout for £1420 with 6 months tax...bargain!!

First thing will be to sort the bodywork, get it serviced.....
Then maybe put some clear front and side repeaters on, take the M badge off the back, take the spoiler off and replace with a M Tech 1 example, buy some centre caps and thats pretty much it....
Anything you think?

Just curious really and would raise doubts in my mind as to the rest of the adverts validity.
I have friends in Marlow and used to live there so if you want it checked over before traveling let me know.

I'm not trying to put a downer on your purchase or worry you about it i just have a lot of experience in buying these things and don't trust sellers adverts especialy when they get minor details wrong.
All the best with it.

The journey you are taking sounds very long winded if it were me i would jump on a train to Euston and then from Euston to High wycombe. It will be cheaper and quicker as the Heathrow to High Wycombe train will require a change either at Euston or Clapham anyway.

Depends if it ends up needing £1500 worth of body work restoration. Like its already been said check, check and double check everything. Theres alot of E30's out there that look nice and shiney in photos and even look good right in front of you. If you have had a few Im sure you know the areas to look.325isporttech1 wrote:£1495 for a 325i sport- enough said, there is some genuine bargains out there, even if it needs a bit of bodywork its still cheapSPADGE wrote:How can you tell that from a few photo's325isporttech1 wrote:well done mate i think you have got yourself a bargain it looks straight enough and wont take much to get mint

There's a Tech 1 Boot Spoiler on sale in the car parts section of the zone. Good luck.

Spadge is right. I've broken two Tech 1 Sports that looked okay from the outside but were absolutely rotten when you really looked into them. The rear arch housings are very prone to appalling rust.325isporttech1 wrote:£1495 for a 325i sport- enough said, there is some genuine bargains out there, even if it needs a bit of bodywork its still cheapSPADGE wrote:How can you tell that from a few photo's325isporttech1 wrote:well done mate i think you have got yourself a bargain it looks straight enough and wont take much to get mint
Tell you what - pull the boot side carpets out on this Wycombe thing, and then get your £1500 out..........
It's a pity they are such rust buckets because they were a very good car.
Yeah ill be having a good look inside the boot, sills, rear arches, scuttle panel, under the kit if I can.....
Engine wise, what sort of things should I be looking for? Iv had 2 sports but many many years ago now....
Some advise would be more than welcome..

Also look at the battery tray. Ive had to rebuild the whole section before including up in the arch. Also they go on the bulge bit behind the dash in both corners, Ive had about 4 that have gone there but its a really hard place to check. Ive found it common on the early shape E30, not found it on a face lift one yet.RSTurbo50 wrote:Yeah ill be having a good look inside the boot, sills, rear arches, scuttle panel, under the kit if I can.....

Yeah forgot about behind the carpet in the boot
damp footwells are also trouble, the roof can rust internaly check the roof is flat to look at with no indents looking from the back
i cant realy talk i got mine in the dark when it was raining with no real e30 knowledge and was very very lucky not to have ended up with n old dog after looking at a few of the tech1's resto threads out there
at the end of the day you will know if its good when you get there and poke around its obviously a bit of a lottery.
As for the engine mine is a bit lumpy when started after been stood and it ticks over to i think 1500rpm when cold starting then goes to around 950rpm but if you slightly touch the throttle when its at 1500 it feels like its gona cut out as the revs drop right off but it never does, it should also pull well in all gears, it will also probably sound tappy. also check that the speedo etc works as it should and if you can check the wiring loom thats in the dash as these can be a mess and hard to source.Another thing is check the ABS light comes on and goes off as it should. All this is from my experience with my tech1 and what i have read
