Just filled my car with petrol again and worked out my mpg.

28.9 mpg which is all short jouney town driving.

Got 38 mpg last week when i drove it home from Bristol (500 miles)

I am quite surprised how good it is :)

That sounds a bit too economical to me! Sure its not running a bit too lean?

Or it could be that its got a very new AFM hence running how it should!

AFM= Air Flow Meter, its the black box behind the air filter and it regulates/monitors the flow of air into the engine

here's a pic to show you where it is

ps-well done on the 38mpg-thats what i've got as a max outta my 'ollie reed' 2.0 m20

i'm not saying u are lying i'm just stating that i find that very hard to believe thats all. My 2.5 runs sweet but u still have to drive conservative to get 25mpg plus in these cars

My guess your trip from bristol was taken at 60 mph or a bit less? Cruise control would greatly help a good mpg figure on a long run if u have it

Thats what I did to work my MPG out when I first got the sport.

Filled it up so I could see the fuel in the filler neck, drove to Heathrow and back all M4/M5 at around 75mph (didnt go below 70, didnt go above 80). Filled up again at the same petrol station when I got back, again so I could see the fuel. Averaged 37-38mpg.

Did the same thing around town/everyday driving, averaged 26-27mpg.
Gave it some stick one night - 20-21mpg.

I was happy with that. :)
The car ran fine and the guys I followed upto Rockingham will tell you, it wasnt slow. 8)
